TURKISH PROFESSOR THREATENED WITH ARREST IN SWITZERLAND FOR DENIAL OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN, MAY 3. ARMINFO. Swiss prosecutor Andrej Gnehm, who has opened up a case against the President of the Turkish History Society, Professor Halacoglu, has said "Let him come and testify. If he doesn't, the moment Professor Halacoglu steps into Switzerland, we will arrest him." Turkish weekly reports. Though the Swiss Ambassador in Ankara, Walter Gyger, has said that no such arrest would be made, Prosecutor Gnehm has repeated the intent to arrest Halacoglu if he should so much as set foot in Switzerland.

Gnehm says that Professor Halacoglu's denial of the Armenian genocide is on the level of denying the Jewish Holocaust, says he wants to ask for a 3 year prison sentence for Halacoglu. The speech given by Halacoglu in which he publicly rejected Armenian claims of genocide was given on May 2nd, 2004. It was later written about in Swiss newspapers.

According to the 261st amendment to the Swiss Constitution, it is a crime against humanity to deny or misrepresent genocidal acts. Swiss prosecutor Gnehm has stressed that the case against Halacoglu is directly tied to the official recognition of the Armenian genocide by the Swiss Parliament.

Attempt to get help from Interpol Prosector Gnehm has apparently attempted to get information about Professor Halacoglu's whereabouts through Interpol, but was informed that there was not enough evidence to warrant an international arrest. Gnehm is insistent that Halacoglu present himself in Switzerland for questioning.

TURKISH HISTORIAN CAN BE ARRESTED FOR DENYING GENOCIDE

04.05.2005 05:11

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ As it was reported earlier, Switzerland came to decision on detainment of head of the Association of Turkish Historians Yusuf Ghalachogly for public denial of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of last century. The legal proceedings were initiated last spring when during a scientific conference Ghachalogly questioned the fact of the Genocide and stated that the “activity of the Swiss juridical bodies and the resolution of the Belgian parliament mean that Europe judges not people but the Turkish State.” Meanwhile Swiss historian Andre Egne said that if Ghachalogly fails to prove his statements he can be detained. To note, according to Article 261.2 of the Swiss Criminal Code the person, who shows disrespect for the fact of Genocide and for the victims of this crime against humanity can be sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment and should pay a penalty amounting in 5 thousand Swiss franks, IA Regnum reports.

I got different informations from other news source, which is more about arresting him based on an anti-racist law.

I don't believe someone should be jailed for questioning a genocide, but I do believe he should be jailed because as a racist he's worst than Ataov.

Halacoglu doesn't stop in denying the Armenian genocide, the moron claim while the Armenian victims were in the number of 50 thousand or so, Armenians killed 500 thousand or so. He characterises Armenians with racist stereotypes and his trash can be called hateful speech.

Discredit that fool. But then I don't know how you can discredit him further. He will stop receiving invitations from other countries when people come to recognize the clown that he is.

The guy is a schizophrenic, he's been defeated just recently by the release of the notebooks of Talaat, that he likes quoting.
