Are there people here who enjoy investing in the stock market?

Would people be interested in sharing investment ideas here? Is it practical or more of a hustle?

Yes Movses, it is up 1.1% but when was the last time that gold went up 20% or 30% or 40% in a year? I am not the best investor in the world, but I have had some homeruns in stocks.

Oh, don't get me wrong I have/had a list to long(here we go with that long list again) of failures as well. Among them was webvan(I use to LOVE their service, I wish someone else would come back in to that segment of the market) and Exodus and JDS Uniphase(barf) and AT&T and Gillette and Home Depot and who can forget Lucent.

Yah! I used to enjoy the stock market quite a bit ... that's when everything was going UP up up and up

YOu wanna take advice from me? hehehehehe ... so for a while I was pretty hot on this company called ZOOX (Gadzoox) ... not sure if I told you about them ... so I bought when they were $50, I bought when they were $45 ... I bought when they were $30 ... I bought even more when they got to $20 ... I added a few more shares to my portfolio when they hit $15 and some more when they went below $10. I also bought a few more around $5.

Last trade, they were at around .5 cent I believe You still want advice from me?

... oh and forgot to say that fortunately, that was around the time I was contemplating continuing to Ph.D. ... Once I realized it would be a bit hard to lose the investment I put into my brain and myself, the choice was obvious!

Plus I saw how a few friends who had gone out chasing their millions ($$$) after their BS degree, got totally bankrupt and lost everything Some of them couldn't even afford the taxes they owed on these stock options that were part of their starting package at those hightech companies.

I can certainly relate. I was one those many Canadians that bought into Nortel. Actually I was one of the lucky ones: I bought at around 40$, in the next 10-12 months the stock split, and grew to about 120$+ .

I didn't sell.

The stock plummetted to just under a dollar, now it's worth just over 3$... maybe I should buy some more

I use to work for a company that wrote alot of Storage management tools(especially for EMC and HDS devices). One of my coworkers use to put all his excess cash in Gadzoox as he thought some day they were going to manage the world. He had to sell his home and move to a smaller home to pay all his loses in the market especially on ZOOX.

I have a friend who exercised her options of Exodus at $38 when they were at $90, but did not sell any shares. Which means she had a gain of $52 a share and no money at hand at that time. Then the company went within 3 months filled for bankruptcy and closed shop so at the end of the year she had a gain of 52 and a loss of 38 which meant that for each share she had a net gain of 14 a shares that she never even got a penny for but had to pay thousands of dollars in taxes for that gain. I think she either had 2400 shares or 1400 shares. Sad. She was crying as she had no job and a huge tax burden.

Ouch: AOL Time Warner Inc. (AOL) on Wednesday posted a 2002 loss of nearly $100 billion -- the largest annual loss in U.S. corporate history -- and in a sign of further turmoil, media mogul Ted Turner said he would step down as vice chairman.

I think $100B is about 30 years of the GDP for Armenia.

Sip, news for you: Chipmaker Broadcom has made a bid to acquire the assets of troubled storage-networking maker Gadzoox Networks, a Gadzoox representative told CNET News.com on Thursday.

Hey Movses, did you see gold today? Up another 6-7 dollars. Ouch.

On another note I just got off the phone with my broker at Morgan Stanley and he said that they are seeing a support level of 7100. Oh boy. I have no more blood left.

ya, just think Movses jan, you could have bought gold 30 years ago for 800 dollars and now it would be worth soooooooooooo much money. Oh wait, it would be worth the same. :) I know I am being an ass.
