Arpa
Barbar, Dialects. Let us begin a thread about dilaects. Barbar, to be more precise since "dialect" does not do justice to our case, our so called dilaects are not reallyy dilaects in the strict sense. Our Vernaculars/barbars are intelligible to those who have a broader acquaintace with our language whereas when some other people such a the Indians speak about dialects they mean a totally different concept. Their dialects are totally unintelligible to their neighbors. By this definition it would be calling Persian and Armenian as dialects of the same larger family. Which is true. Search and find my post about; "Armenian is a Dialect". http://hyeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=7842 Of all the western "dialects" the Musayi Ler, aka Kessab one has survived even to this day. It is a Kilikian dialect much like the Marash, Zeitun etc. which may as well be declared dead. Below the "national" anthem of Musa Ler :) Enjoy the dance here; http://www.kessabeducationalassociation.org/Kessabdance.htm And enjoy the lyrics here: http://www.kessabeducationalassociation.org/Kessabisong.htm Let us use this thread to post gems from barbars that some us may be familiar with. I have access to Marash and Zeitun barbars, and I have a book about Artsakh dialect which I can hardly understand. gellamelan
this topic reminds me to ask... as we know, barbar means the unwritten language of a certain region... I've been trying to find the word that suggests western and eastern armenian. if the English word for the 2 types of Armenian "dialect", then the word "dialect" does not mean barbar. what do you think? can you contribute? or was that clear?
