I don't really know what you're talking about but since I can't write in Armenian on this computer I'll spell out how I write Hagop in Armenian for u. HEE AIP GEN VO PEN if you don't know the letter names arevmdahye style, your loss.

I'm arevmdahay. so I'd spell it how I've always learned. Hagop with a HEE. now. this is a totally odar word... as you said it goes way back to Aramaic or something! and when it comes to foreign words, there is no right or wrong spelling. so westerners usually spell it how they would pronounce it, which in English corresponds to HAGOP. and Easterners spell it HAKOP or HAKOB. I don't think you should worry about it that much. it's not an Armenian word. spell it as you please. it's your name!

this topic reminds me to ask... as we know, barbar means the unwritten language of a certain region... I've been trying to find the word that suggests western and eastern armenian. if the English word for the 2 types of Armenian "dialect", then the word "dialect" does not mean barbar. what do you think? can you contribute? or was that clear?

(I would say shut up but that'd be rude) I can't believe I actually have to explain this but ...pure western Armenian is 100%. it's a DUH situation but I understand some people are slow. now this thread's author asked one question. is western Armenian the oldest. and you guys have butchered arevmdahyeren(western Armenian) instead of seeking an answer for his question. and the answer is yes. the Armenian language founded by Mesrob Mashdots in the beginning of the 5th century was what we today call western Armenian. it was used widely in Armenia way before Mashdots's days, but it was only a spoken language. Mashdots attached letters to it and it became official. Eastern Armenian however branched out of that hundreds of years later. lets cut the crap and ignorence and celebrate one of the richest languages in the world. it's ours. it's Armenian.

okay I looked into this. basically Sa/Da/Na are tsoutsagan adzagan-s just like ait/ain/ais... used in both dialects but more in Eastern. Krapar too. thanx Harut.

hello ignorant person. just letting you know that both western and eastern dialects are "proper Armenian". but your devoid mind wouldn't think so... why you ask? because some people's minds are so closed, they think theirs is the only way. grow up and read a little will ya?

I'm using a public computer that doesn't let me change the settings, so I can't type in Armenian. but bottomline... takavor and Arka are synonyms. they both mean king. clearly. I would say takavor is the "more armenian" one... if you will. cuz arka comes from (as many of you have mentioned) the prefix ARCH as in master or chief.. (example: architect = master builder) and takavor comes from the good old armo word TAK meaning crown... again. as Arpa has mentioned. and about navahankisd... true it means harbor... but it's hard to believe we don't have an armenian name for "port". I don't have a dictionary handy. and I can't use internet dictionaries... no font... but I'll definitely look into it. and I don't quite understand the X, q question.

Although desirable, I highly doubt the turkish government is THAT concerned about us. tsunami? lol anyway, what I'm trying to say is, obviously we're gonna live up to the expectations... this coming year's commemorative activities that is... but it's gonna take quite a while for Turkey to do anything about it (if they do anything at all). again... I'm not killing it for Armenians... just being a realist.
