kakachik77
I was reading about the history and development of Racial Classficication in the US and came across something VERY shocking. Please read the link under 1922 legislation, it claims that "Armenians, known as "Asiatic Turks," succeed with the help of anthropologist Franz Boas, who testifies as an expert scientific witness. " http://www.pbs.org/race/000_About/002_03_c-godeeper.htm I was wondering if anybody has ever come across ANYTHING like this.

Gor-Gor
I'd read about that in my Constitutional Law class last year. Interesting, isn't it?

Saying Armenians are Turks is not more wrong than saying they're Aryan, or any other social construction bullcrap. Armenians are Armenians, Turks are Turks etc... "white" is just a characteristic, like nose shape, hair color, etc... this timeline is just about social construct, one of the worst myths humanity has come with, the so-called different races in human. We had two races, the Homo Sapien Sapiens and the Homo Sapien neanderthalis, one of those has disapeared, we're left with the most imperfect and warmongering between the two, the Homo Sapien Sapiens. We must sue god for that. Edited December 10, 2004 by Fadix
gamavor
Degenerated Anglo-Saxons usurped and manipulated the development of races. The only white people are Armenians, Greeks, Slavs and Persians and those of our vicinity. The rest so-called "whites" are Pinkos.

kakachik77
I was just wondering if Armenians are Asiatic Turks then what there are African Turks, European Turks...I know how faulty the early 20th century classifications has been, I mean come on...Blacks were considered sub-human and Italians were considered black and a big threat to the "American whiteness" at a time. gamavor
To further your point; there were signs in Massachusets at some bars that read - "Prohibited for dogs and Irish". The homosexsual Anglo-Saxon culture defined everyone who is not WASP as non-white. In the same order, Germans were not considered white as well as French and Italians, not to speak about Spaniards and Portugese, who generaly are darker than we are and the rest of the Southern Europeans. There were even some doubts about the "witness" of the Scandinavians. Same is valid for Polish immigrants and generally Slavs. Later of course many things changed, except my utter dislike of the so called White culture. If a person is a descendant of any European culture and is not proud of his ethnic origin and culture but rather associaates him/herself with Whites that means that he is a white trash. Did I say that Americans are Idiots. Ah Colombus, Colombus....tvoia mat!

How many of you guys and gals have US passports? Open it and see what your country of origin is listed. Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Greece, Egypt, Jordan, Armenia? What else? We don't see them as much anymore but at one time when one read the obituaries of older Armenians one would read that they were natives (born in)of Turkey, even if they went as far as saying Kharbert or Sebastia, they were still qualified asTurkey. Some may have deliberately intervened and had it written as Marash, Armenia etc, but in most cases the obituaries were written based on the deceased' identification pepers. We all say we are Armenians but if one were to look at our passports we would all be classified as something else based on our country of birth/origin. Boghos
My paternal grandfather´s Foreign Registration Card in Brazil said: born in Turkey, nationality-Armenian. Arpa
My paternal grandfather´s Foreign Registration Card in Brazil said: born in Turkey, nationality-Armenian. The simplest and most accurate possibility. style_images/master/snapback.png Boghos, You know that there is an element of poetic license in the above. There was a time when "nationality" was used as a substitute for ethnicity. In Syria, before the independence Armenians were described as; Jinsiet-Armani, and after independence it changed to; Jinsiet-Souri. They use the word to mean "nationality" which in fact means "genealogy/ethnicity". You can see the similarity of the words. "dznund" in Armenian is based on the same root. In the modern world nationaily is tantamount to citizenship, i.e. Nationailty-Brazilian/ethnicity-Armenian, nationailty-US (American)/ethnicity-Armenian. During this era of Nation-State Nationality is interchanged with citizenship. Things were different at one time during colonial days. In the Ottoman Empire citizenship and nationality were two distinct concepts. Armenians and many other minorities were designated as "millet" which is an Arabic word loosely meaning nationality while their citizenship was Ottoman. It curious to know how Canadians and Australians tackle this question. The fact that they are both commonwealths, i,e, colonies of GB and their head of state is the Queen. Neither has a president, only a PM. Edited December 13, 2004 by Arpa
Boghos
Arpa, Very true. What makes this case perhaps a bit more interesting is that in Brazil such distinction never existed, people think very little in terms of ethnicity here. In school you simply learn that if you are born in Canada you are a Canadian, in Iran an Iranian and so on. But grandpa managed to be much more faithful to the facts. I even asked him about it, how he managed it, he just said that they asked him and he gave them the answer, he did say that they were not used to it, but given that he ws a highly personable fellow thay allowed it... gamavor
The confusion could simply be removed once one states that he is Armenian, or from Armenia. It would be enough headache for the inquirer to find Armenia on the map.

Eevn if some of them may be full of hot logos :) There was a time when people, based on the strange look and sound of my name, and sensing a slight, I said slight accent in my diction would ask me where I was from. I would cop out and say something like "europe/middle east" since I knew that if I had said Armenia it would take another half hour of show and tell to explain what and where Armenia is/was. It is much simpler now. I just tell them I am from Armenia. It is not a total lie. I have been there three times already, and looking forward for the fourth time.
