Can't Play Ram Files!

I went to troubleshooting, More info, blah, blah, and stil can't play ram files with Real Player!

 

Here is what they suggested. I tried all of it and still doesn't work!

 

 

Cannot open audio device. Another program may already be using it.

 

RealPlayer uses the sound card on your computer to record and play. If the sound card is in use by another program, or if RealPlayer cannot detect the sound card, you will receive this error.

 

You can usually correct this problem by closing other programs that may be using the sound card. If that does not help, you will need to make sure your sound card is working properly, and update any older sound card drivers.

 

Solution 1: Close other programs that may be using the sound card.

 

Windows 2000, XP:

 

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, and then click Run.

2. Type taskmgr in the dialog box, and then click OK.

3. Click the Applications tab.

4. Click each program to highlight it, and then click End Task.

5. Attempt to replay the content.

 

Windows 98SE, ME:

 

1. Press and hold the CTRL and ALT keys, and then press the DELETE key. The Close Program window appears.

2. For each program you want to close, highlight it/click it once and then click End Task. Do not close Systray or Explorer.

 

4. Attempt to replay the content.

 

Solution 2: Verify that your card and driver are installed properly.

 

 

Visit the Web site of your computer or sound card manufacturer for assistance, if:

 

The Device Status message states that the device is not working properly.

The installed drivers do not match the sound card’s hardware. You need to reinstall the correct soundcard driver.

You see a yellow ! or red X in the device manager. You need to reinstall the sound card, sound card driver, or both.

Windows 2000, XP:

 

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, then Settings, then Control Panel, then System (Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > System).

2. Click the Hardware tab, and then the Device Manager button.

3. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Sound, video, and game controllers.

4. Right-click your sound card, and then click Properties.

5. Compare the window's contents with sound card driver descriptions in the sound card documentation.

6. On the General tab, make sure that the Device status message is "This device is working properly."

(Windows 2000: Make sure also that Use this device (enable) is selected.)

 

Windows 98SE, ME:

 

1. On the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer.

2. From the shortcut menu, choose Properties.

3. Click the Device Manager tab.

4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Sound, video, and game controllers.

5. Right-click your sound card, and then click Properties.

6. Compare the window's contents with sound card driver descriptions in the sound card documentation.

7. On the General tab, make sure that the Device status message is "This device is working properly."

8. Under Device Usage, make sure the Disable in this hardware profile check box is cleared.

 

Solution 3: Update your sound card driver.

 

RealPlayer is designed to take advantage of the latest advances in driver technology. Older drivers can cause unexpected errors. If the installed driver is more than six months old, it may need an update. Driver updates are usually available for free download from your computer or sound card manufacturer's Web site.

 

 

Anyone has an idea what the problem may be?

1. what OS are you running?

2. have you been able to use real player in the past?

3. are you currently using other media players (windows media player, quicktime etc.)

 

Have you tried to uninstall realplayer, download the lastes version and re-install it?

Windows 98

 

I did all of it. Actually I installed the older versions, thinking that the new version doesn't support ram anymore. When I went to properties there were no ram extensions under media types. Before one week I as able to play and no problem.

 

In addition to real player I installed windows media player and still cannot play ram.

do other extensions play on media player or other players?

 

does smoke come out of your machine?

have you been using a nail to clean your ears?

Yes Harut, my sound card is fine, because when I play porno clips I can see and hear (surprise - in the same time!).

 

It happens only with damn RAM ext.

have you tried other ram files, or just those you have that you've got from the same source?

 

btw, with all these questions i'm asking, don't expect to get a solution from me. i've just been curious since childhood.

yes, other ram files equally do not work.

Could it be some sort of incompatibilty between win98 & the new version of real? Maybe you can get an older version to install - look here.
