Things My Folks Said

When I used to get naughty (that happened all the time) my grand-grand mother used to say this wierd thing:

 

"Divu mis utis, Adama ptugh utis, kangnis` qu mis gedin tesnis".

 

I consider this a fine piece of poetry, although it is esscencially a curse.

Well my grandmother used to tell me "audible discharge of intestinal gas" jokes, which were very vulgar and she was usually the one laughing to tears at them. She also kept her dentures in her utensils drawer. I remember the funniest incident evar!

 

It was Easter, a whole family gathered at my tatiks apartment. That included my second cousins which are my brother's age and at the time were around 5 and full of vitality. Well they decided to reenact the movie "Jaws." My brother reached into that drawer pulled out her dentures and started running around the living room after our cousins while they were screaming in terror. Everyone noticed and heard the clicking of the “Jaws”, including my horrified and embarrassed grandmother. She jumped up and started chasing after my brother who was chasing his cousins, while we were hardly managing to stay in our seats ready to fall on the floor from laughter. It looked like a little caravan that went around the room in a few circles. After a few minutes she captured her dentures and with total embarrassment put it away somewhere. It was the funniest spectacle that I've ever witnessed.

The "ancient" generation's fascination with that sort of stuff never ceases to amaze me. My grandmother has unfortunately passed it on to my brother, and they get hysterical when together.
