If the current Iranian government is removed amid these recent protests and a pro-US government is put in its place, wonder how that will affect Armenia and artsakh. I think it will put more pressure on Armenia.

the Turks must grant the Holy See's request to return Sis. They should also return Akhtamar to the Armenian Church and stop showing it off as a museum piece to clueless tourists. they will do this if they are honest in their intentions, but we know they won't cause they're not honest.

Donald Trump Calls for Barring Muslims From Entering U.S.
yergatuni1 replied to onjig's topic in International
We as Armenians should know the danger posed by too much islamic infuence in a country. We lived in relative peace in various middle eastern countries only by being low key. and even then, look what happens when a secular government is replaced or assaulted by an islamic one, like in Syria. and of course we were genocide victims in turkic muslim controlled western Armenia. We escaped that to come to the US and the last thing we want is to see the same cancer spreading here. -
Do you trust Russia or the United States more and why?
yergatuni1 replied to vadik963's topic in Republic of Armenia
Trust the US less, Russia more. But neither one really. At least Armenia's and Russia's interests coincide concerning protecting the Armenian-Turkish border. Also, Russians are at odds with Turks, same as us. Lastly, they have recognized the Genocide. That's enough for me. Not perfect, given their duplicitous stance on Artsakh, but its the best we can get right now. The US? they care little for Armenia; they've proved it, time and time again. They've sided with the turks, at least for now. -
A Georgian-Armenian alliance would've certainly helped Armenia's economy. Unfortunately, the Georgians have not acted like the sharpest tools in the shed, wooed by the short term profit of Turkish, Azeri trade benefits as well as encouragement from the US, they've already allowed themselves to be misled by the US, won't be long before the turks use their status with Georgia to infiltrate their country and gain irreversible influence. Hopefully they will wake up. Georgia is second on the turks hit list, it looks like they just don't know it yet.

Sorry to hear about his passing. I remember he gave a 'colorful' commentary about my Saint Minas thread a few years back. He certainly added a different insight to the conversation. I shall miss his posts.

They should feel ashamed. I guess the genocide is still for sale. -
What will be the future of our country?
yergatuni1 replied to vadik963's topic in Republic of Armenia
I don't think Turkey would attack as long as Russia is in the picture. I think Russia would act as the referee between Armenia and the Tatars, sort of like last time. And my guess, the only ones who might help us in an all out war (at least directly) is Iran. Its good you have 4 years to decide. In 4 years the situation in Armenia should become more clear to us. As long as your planning on moving to Armenia, its important to keep up on the news there, keep in contact with people there to find out the latest. Know what your getting into. From talking to people who are from there, I've learned things on the front line have gotten worse. People in Armenia are worried. The news backs this up. I wouldn't worry about ISIS in that region. The risk of a 2nd Arstakh war is the biggest threat right now. Like I said earlier, my opinion is the risk of war there is tied with what happens in Ukraine. Hachokhootuin Vadik -
What will be the future of our country?
yergatuni1 replied to vadik963's topic in Republic of Armenia
Armenia's fate is tied to Russia. And right now, Russia is being hurt by western sanctions, so Armenia suffers also. In this case it looks like we are one step closer to war with the Azeris/Tatars; war always comes from economic trouble. Neither side wants war but they may be pushed into it. I think full blown war in Ukraine with Russia will set off Armenia/Artsakh as well and vice versa. As the well worn phrase says, 'let's hope cooler more rational heads prevail in the end'. (in case of war, our best ally may be Iran). -
good article on Aghtamar in a way. But instituting these niceties as described by the author does not provide justice for the genocide. A nation was criminally destroyed. The genocide also has effectively endangered the future of Armenians as a people. The only proper way to right the wrong is for the return of those lands to the Armenian people. The acknowledgement of the genocide by Turkey and their supporters (the US and Israel) is just a first step. It can't stand on its own, its really meaningless on its own. The return of those lands is the only just final outcome of that Acknowledgment. The turks will never do it on their own and no one will force them to do it, but that is the only proper true way to address the genocide. We really don't need an apology from anyone, Armenians need the homeland back, as outlined in the Treaty of Sevres. This is the key to the future of the Armenian nation. A tiny landlocked nation effectively owned and controlled by the Russians and local mafia elements is not a viable future for the Armenians still living there nor for the slowly assimilating Armenians living abroad.

I can see this happening. As the article explains, Georgia is the key, if it continues to be unreliable this will happen and I think Russia would back Armenia. Also depends on Russia's relations with the Tatars/Azeris (whatever they want to call themselves).

The west is so concerned and ready to go to war about the chemical attack on Syrians in Damascus (they're not even sure who did it!) and yet they shut their eyes to this. I am really tired of their hypocrisy. We are really alone in our fight against the Turks http://www.armenianweekly.com/2013/10/04/skulls-and-bones-exposed-in-mass-grave-near-van/

On a sports note, for the beginning of the football season: Gary Danielson born in 1951 in Dearborn Michigan as Gary Danielian Played Quarterback in college at Purdue university. Played professionally in the NFL as a starting quarterback between 1976 and 1988 for the Detroit Lions and then Cleveland Browns, While he never won a super bowl he did set a Detroit Lions record for most Touchdowns made in one game (5) in 1978.

This is the beginning of Armenian resurgence in the old homeland, local turks and kurds are questioning there ethnic identity and the AG is being discussed more in that country. At first I didn't like the fact that any Armenians were participating in the Sourp Khach ceremony, but now it looks like this ceremony has stirred the pot. If the turks react angrily now to all this and revert back they will look worse than before. the only way is to allow more liturgies to take place and eventually some of the those old churches will be given back to the Armenian Church....If local Armenian churches are revived in old Armenia that is the beginning of a resurgent Armenian presence.

JOHN MCCAIN: I BELIEVE THAT A GENOCIDE WAS COMMITTED AGAINST ARMENIANS
yergatuni1 replied to Yervant1's topic in Genocide
Mr McCain should show his sincerity by supporting the genocide resolution being introduced in congress. its time for him to show a little heart and courage in this matter. Here's his chance to upstage his former opponent who is playing around with the memory of our million and a half plus murdered ancestors and destroyed nation. -
per the enscription inside the church he was Armenian. also, its doubtful he was just a merchant; otherwise the emperor wouldn't have wasted time torturing him to make him renounce his faith, he would have just fed him to the lions outright, just like most of the other christians in the empire.

Here's a bit more information, Minas left Armenia and joined the Roman army. He was eventually ordered beheaded by the Roman Emperor Decius for refusing to give up his Christian beliefs. Hence, he became the first Christian Martyr of Florence. This was at a time when Armenia itself was still pagan.
-
About 250 AD, Armenian Prince (don't know who the Armenian King was at the time), First Martyr of Florence, Italy, the Church of San Miniato in Florence is dedicated to him, the patron saint of that city.

This protocol was a bad idea, how will it help the average armenian? cheap turkish gooods will close down all those street side vending businesses. how will our small armenian merchants compete with cheaper turkish goods? what will we sell to the turks that they don't already have? khatchkars perhaps? more probably armenian buildings, property and land, its easy to see where this is going, it looks like this only helps a few big armenian businessmen and politicians... meanwhile the turkish president is telling his turkic minions that they have achieved their dream goals and sevan (that's right out lake sevan) is finally theirs.... our Armenian government (anybody in the armenian goverment) need to wake up

Armenia & Turkey agree to establish diplomatic talks
yergatuni1 replied to Em's topic in Republic of Armenia
it is not practical in the sense that no one is willing to enforce the arbitration. but the fact remains that an arbitration is irreversable, hence, technically and legally those territories belong to Armenia and turkey occupies them illegally. This is a fact. This is just another example of the lack of true justice internationally and it shows that those with power and influence can do whatever they want. -

Armenia & Turkey agree to establish diplomatic talks
yergatuni1 replied to Em's topic in Republic of Armenia
the RA should insist before its too late that the Armenian Genocide issue be completely reomoved from negotiations. We can't force them to admit to it, and maybe we shouldn't care if they do. But we should have the dignity to not put this factual event up as a negotiation piece and should flatley reject any proposal by the turks to do so. also, the disapora should be allowed to seek recognition as much as they want, its their right - they are the decendants of the true victims - along with many in armenia itself. Moreover we should come out and claim that the kars region belongs to us. they keep crying that artsakh is azeri? ok, Kars is armenian, so is nakhichevan, and 'ruin' on Akhtamar is a church not a rotten museum with a damn turkish flag flying in front of it...all these should be brought to the table if everbody wants true reconciliation.... -
Armenia & Turkey agree to establish diplomatic talks
yergatuni1 replied to Em's topic in Republic of Armenia
why should they? when the historical commission comes out with an inconclusive outcome on the genocide disscussion?, why should any country recognize it after that outcome what the armenian government is doing is playing politics with the genocide, they've joined the club and are their doing the same thing the US/israel have been doing... -
First, sevres has alot to do with the genocide. Wilson granted lands to the armenians so that they would be free of turkish domination and further massacres, please re-read the treaty...second the turks will have little choice as to what they may want to keep if the genocide is officially recognized. of course they can keep what they want, no one will go to war for armenia over those lands, but if the turks give nothing they will lose standing, respect, leverage, and will eventually join with the likes if more radical less western countries, their ties to the west will deteriorate, - that is why there is such a huge effort to keep the genocide from being recognized....
