The embassy claims reports regarding the General's reburial were put forward by Armenian-American historian Antranig Chalabian , who claims to have received the news from Arman Kirakossian, Armenia's ambassador to the United States. The Armenian embassy in Washington stated the news being spread does not correspond to the truth. The embassy said, "Ever since the remains of General Antranig were transferred to Armenia, many Diasporan Armenians have contacted us to find out what plans are being undertaken by the Armenian government make the General's memory eternal. Chalabian also made a similar inquiry with the embassy, and was told by Ambassador Kirakossian that the government is considering the erection of a monument in Yerevan in honor of General Antranig. The reburial of the General's remains was never discussed between Chalabian and the ambassador." The Armenian embassy added, "Antranig Chalabian informed us of fundraising efforts initiated by him for the realization of the monument, however this has nothing to do with the so-called plans on the General's reburial."

"The bombings of Baghdad in February 2001 by the USA and Great Britain show that the US' and NATO's stake on force in resolving the issues leads to the expanding of uncontrolled use of military force", says the communique, issued today in Yerevan upon the results of the international conference "The church, state, society and crisis of liberal doctrine of world reconstruction". PRESIDENTS OF AZERBAIJAN AND ARMENIA HAVE REACHED A VERBAL AGREEMENT ON PRINCIPLES OF Artsax DISPUTE SETTLEMENT, V. GULIYEV SAID 22.02.2001 YEREVAN, February 22. /Mediamax/. Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev stated that during the Parisian talks of 26 January 2001 the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia reached a verbal agreement on principles of Artsax conflict settlement. As Trend reports, Guliyev also said that Aliyev and Kocharian will have another meeting in France at the beginning of March. Commenting the coming discussions over the ways of Artsax conflict settlement in Azerbaijani Milli Majlis on Feb. 23, the minister informed that no decisions are expected to be taken at that session. Guliyev also said that it's untimely yet to submit for referendum the principle of Artsax issue resolution. The presidents, he continued, can take this decision. AZERBAIJAN STRIVES TO SPOIL THE PEACEMAKING EFFORTS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY, NKR FOREIGN MINISTER SAID 22.02.2001 YEREVAN, February 22. /Mediamax/. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nagorno Artsax Republic (NKR) Naira Melkumian stated in the interview to Mediamax that the certain intensification of the Artsax conflict settlement process indicates the interest of the world community in the achievement of peace agreement between the conflicting sides. According to Melkumian, this is proved also by the upcoming visit of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office to the region, during which he will meet with NKR president. Minister Melkumian noted at the same time that the actions of the Azeri side, expressed in the publication of confidential proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group and in initiating discussions over them in the Azeri parliament, are aimed at the formation of an unfavorable political background before the upcoming visit of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office. The first comments of the Azeri politicians on the publication of the mediators' proposals leave no doubts that "Azerbaijan, with characteristic hysterical style, once again tries to spoil the peacemaking efforts of the world community", Naira Melkumian said. --0--
