It's my mother's maiden name, and fairly prominent in Brazil, especially in fashion design and apparel manufacturing. Also, there is a French singer known as Danyel Gerard whose birth name is Gerard Daniel Kherlakian. He also has a Brazilian connection, having spent a portion of his childhood in Rio de Janeiro. If anyone has information on the etymology (meaning) of the name, and/or its history, I would be very grateful.
