  1. In earlier postings, some people mentioned that Jesus had children. I have studied the Bible and Christianity (although not extremely extensively) and I have not yet heard of this theory. Do you have any proof of this theory?

    Daoism ???

Seaphan- I would recommend the book "Tao of Pooh." It explains taoism using Winnie the Pooh characters and stories. It's a bit simplistic and is by no means complete or perfect, but it's a great place to start. I found that reading this first helped me understand the original taoist texts more fully.
  3. Paul Bunyan- I'm not really sure what you're talking about. Could you elaborate on the incident?
  4. Accelerated- Men have a CHOICE too. How come they never CHOOSE to stay home and raise the children? You can't complain that men "work their a$$es off" while women have it easy because they have a "choice." The man CHOSE to work.
  5. Absolutely!! I'm not aware of what it's like in other areas, but many of the A-A girls/women I've met in Los Angeles are the most shallow, materialistic, spoiled, SHALLOW people I've ever seen.
  6. You'd be suprised.

    Looks matter !!!

We live in a society that's very looks-oriented. This ESPECIALLY applies to women, although it also affects men to a certain extent. Because we are a part of this society, we have internalized this message and thus, anyone who says "I DO NOT care about looks AT ALL" is lying. We all do, to different degrees. Do I think this is right? No. The effects of this on women (and men) is devastating. The idea that only appearance matters leads to the objectification of women in the media and in real life. This is exemplified in Accelerated's behavior in which he walks in a party and "judges" the women there, as if they were objects for him to judge and choose the "best." (Accelerated- I'm not attacking you, I'm just using you as an example.) However, I also think that "brains" are important as well to most people. Like Accelerated, I don't think most people are going to stay with complete ditzes. Anyway, that is just my opinion.
  8. Even when women keep their maiden names when they marry, their children tend to use their father's last name. How would the men feel if their children took on their wife's name instead of theirs?
  9. quote:Originally posted by hagarag:The Jews NEED the Turks for Israel to survive. Hagarag, please explain. WHY are the Israelies so dependent on Turkey for their survival? With the support of America, doesn't Israel have all the support it needs?
  10. ????? I don't understand what you're talking about hararag... Do you believe that Jesus and Magdalene were literally an item, or am I missing some kind of hidden point in your post?
  11. This is mainly directed to those who live in the US: Do you believe that the American media is biased toward the Israelis? I've heard many argue that it is, but I've also heard others argue that the media is very biased toward Palestinians. I'd like to hear what you have to say.
  12. quote:Originally posted by hagarag:Deuk may have been governor in the chronological 1984, but he is now an election tool for the California Republican Party, a la the literary "1984." Election tool for the Republican Party?? How so? I haven't even heard his name mentioned once this entire campaign.
  13. quote:Originally posted by THOTH:FYI - I suggest that folks check the March 2002 issue of AIM magazine. Its theme "Violence in the home" - concerning the issue of domestic violence in Armenia. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! Even though I am not aware of the current situation in Armenia, I can see the way Armenian families function in America, and frankly, it's disgusting. The "men" (especially the older ones who immigranted here, but young Armenian-Americans as well) treat the ladies INCREDIBLY horribly. If the women do not do what they demand, they will raise their voice and start yelling and insulting and intimidating until the woman crumbles and succumbs to his demands. The men have NO respect for their ladies. You can see it in the extremely ROUGH way they talk to and handle them. I CANNOT stand to be around such people. It brings me to tears. You cannot blame the men completely, however. They were raised in an environment where this is "ok." But it is an issue that needs to be dealt with so that it can be CHANGED. Arthur, you CANNOT just brush off the article because you don't like what it says. Even YOU must believe that as fellow human beings women should be treated with kindness and respect. I'm sure you would want that for your sisters. Unfortunately, most Armenian and Armenian-American men fail to see this.
  14. Hey, this is EXACTLY how it is at our house, and it bothers me more than anything. I'm not sure if this is true for other families, but I know that in mine, they're this big unspoken rivalry among the women to see who's the "cleanest." They praise eachother on how clean their houses are. Apparently, the faster you clear the dishes, the more clean and tidy you are. I know that when I start having "Armenian" parties, I'll leave the dishes for the NEXT DAY! What's the point of the party if you can't be with your guests!!! If I did do this, would I be considered less "armenian"?? I LOVE choreg
  15. Arthur- Even though I disagreed with a lot of the stuff you said, I had a great deal of respect for you because you stood up for what you believed in. I was really suprised when you started talking about your sexual experiences. They are obviously not the kind of behavior Christianity and traditional Armenian culture advocate. Regardless of what your stupid Armenian friends do, I would have expected you to resist temptation. If you actually believe that sex out of wedlock is a sin, then you obviously do not live as you speak and are a hypocrit. If you believe that sex out of wedlock is only a sin for WOMEN, I want you to explain to me why this is so.
  16. Hey, Will someone tell me what "Hashish" is?? I'm assuming it's either tobacco/cigarrettes or marijuana. I've never heard of it in my life. Maybe I'm just not "armenian" enough!!
  17. Hagarag- I was absolutely shocked and appalled when I heard that Bill Simon won the Republican nomination. I CANNOT believe it. WHO in California voted for this ultra-conservative?? I don't think he stands a chance. Riordan could have pulled off a Republican victory maybe, but I honestly don't think Simon can win. I think Davis will have a much easier time defeating Simon than Riordan. Are you a supporter of Gray Davis?
  18. To me, it is very obvious that gen7474 has very little racial consciousness and is completely inexperienced in dealing with Armenians. Even though she's quick to say that she had no bias against Armenians and that it's wrong to discriminate, she's very comfortable forming negative stereotypical ideas about us and judging us with these misinformed prejudices. Had she truly cared about learning about Armenian culture, she would have tried associating with Armenian people and immersing herself into our culture. It's unbelievable that she would actually think that she can accurately and objectively determine the attitudes and beliefs of and entire CULTURE simply by skimming a few internet postings! Furthermore, she obviously didn't "study" many of the postings in this forum as she claims. I personally do not see a prevailing conservative attitude, but see many more progressive, open-minded individuals. She must be basing her research solely on the postings of Arthur. Moreover, even though gen7474 is quick to label Armenians as uncivilized, she fails to see that the same problems she noted in Armenian culture exist in the American mainstream culture as well. Does she honestly believe that racism is limited to the armenian community? She ignores the fact that racism occurs in other Christian societies, and chooses to single us out and make us look like hypocritical heathens. This is not to justify the racism and other problems that exist in Armenian society, but it is unfair to portray us as the "mal-functioning" culture.
  19. Arthur- If you live in Armenia, where are you coming in contact with European girls??
  20. quote:Originally posted by hagarag: I am blind in one eye, have dyslexia and other learning disabilities which have limited my making use of my 180 IQ. I have never asked for any governemnt agency for help of any kind. This is inherent in our psyche. Inherent in our psyche? You do understand that almost ALL of the Armenian population in Glendale and throughout Southern California live off of Welfare, or Social Security, or some other sort of Government aid. It seems that Armenians are comfortable taking the government check, but don't support the political parties that make these programs possible.

    The Genocide

I found this article on the internet, and I think it's important that we all take a look at it. Read it and post your reactions. web page
  22. Hagarag- I've had this question for a long time and I'm hoping you can answer it for me: It seems like that vast majority of the Armenian population in America is either Republican, or has very conservative views. I find this really odd since the majority of most other immigrant groups tends to be more Liberal (Democratic). Why do you think this is? I don't think it's really about religion, since the African-American and Latino populations tend to be Christian/Catholic and they are more liberal.
  23. By religious studies do you mean the study of ALL religions and philosophies, or just the study of Armenian Orthodox Christianity?
  24. Hagarag- So which candidate for governor are you supporting for the coming election in California? Are you a Republican?
  25. quote:Originally posted by Sip: Ok I am not a Lady but since they (ladies) can also do the same thing, I don't think it is sexist at all. The reason this is considered sexist is that it objectifies women. It isn't NOT SEXIST because women can do the same. They are simply turning the tables and objectifying men. Rather than trying to elevate themselves to the male's level, women are dragging down men to their subordinate position in society. By objectifying men, feminists aren't promoting social justice. On the contrary, they are promoting the continued existence of sexism.
