First and foremost let me say hello to everyone in Hye forum because I am new in here. My concern is where is Armenian music going to be in 10 years. Let me also add that i am a singer and musician and the question always bothers me. Here we are 2001, and reflecting 20 years back in music I have found that there isn’t much change in the market. There is a big change however in the number of artists. I remember in 1979 when i came to the US there was 2 record companies that us Armenians had. There was Parseghian Records and Arka Records. A short while later PeKo records opened also. There where only a hand full of Armenian artists, you could of count them on 1 hand. There was Harout Pampoukjian, Paul BAghdadian (hes not dead) , Maxim, Yeghia , and Adiss, there where maybe a couple more but thats how far my memory goes back. Now in 2001, we have 7 big record companys and i cant even count how many singers. The biggest record company today is Parseghian records. There is 1 more company out there that i think will in time take over the market and that company will be GTAK Records that of coarse is my own opinion. Our music has not takin us far, all it has done is add more players to the game. If we compare the songs we had back in 1980 to what we listen to today we will notice that the singers that we have had back then are still here and making records, but the new artists we have heard two years come and go. All the music we here now is just the reflection of the singer that released a cd before him. Same song different words. And the funny part is that we still buy these cd`s anyway. There are a couple of artists that are true to the game. Harout Pampoukjian being one of them, and Pual the other. The main problem we have in the market is selection. There is no selection process to what does or doesn’t make it as a selling cd. Anything is thrown in the market and sold. I would like to know what my fellow musicians and music listeners think. I would like to hear some feedback. Thanks
