Mamikonian origins really don't matter since they considered themselves Armenian. But whatever they were they were certainly not of Han Chinese origin. If we believe that they were from the East, than they were in all likelihood either of Iranic origins, most likely Sogdians or of Tocharian origin. The other popular theory is that they were from a Kartvelian tribe called Tzans/Chenq.
