  1. I can't believe they actually went forward with it:
  2. Not unlike those drug traffickers, who need more addicts to create a demand. The Western European Union. The currently inactive future defense arm of the European Union. Actually it predates Nato, but sits at the sidelines since it has no role to speak of. Poor Milosevic. Almost makes me feel sorry for him. No, he agrees that Nato has no use anymore.
  3. Nato has lost its raison d'etre. It has no use anymore. If it weren't for the U.S. it would have dissolved a long time ago and would have beeen replaced by the W.E.U. Say, if Serbia isn't guilty of Genocide what was Milosevic doing in The Hague? Wasn't he indicted exactly for this reason? P.S. This from someone whose father worked for Nato and for quite some time. My father agrees by the way.
  4. Those are all bad formats and Windows Media Player is a really lousy player. You should try any other player except that one.
  5. The same happened to a leftist intellectual Dr. Haluk Gerger a few years ago in the U.S. He used to write for a Kurdish daily, perhaps he still does today I don't know. They apprenhended him for no apparent reason and sent him packing back. He recently sued the U.S. authorities here in Turkey for a symbolic sum of 1 YTL and won. The U.S. embassy paid the amount with interest, lol
  6. They have a basic course in Armenian that lasts 25 weeks. And a corresponding course which is shorter. http://www.lisanok.kkk.tsk.mil.tr/kurslar/...nt_ermenice.htm http://www.lisanok.kkk.tsk.mil.tr/EN/content_03kurslar.htm
  7. Yes, and not only last year. Many Armenian-owned businesses also followed suit.
  8. There were several articles in fact, which irritated members of the Armenian community. I asked around quiet a bit and could get a little to the base of it. It had to do with existential questions in the community as well.
  9. That "palace of bus transport" used to be even larger than Ankara airport, before they built the current one.
  10. It has nothing to do with that. It had more to do with underlying intra-community problems and other miscellaneous incidents which alienated Hrant Dink from the Armenian community.
  11. He is not worth a reply. Let him wallow in his own cesspool if it makes him happy.
  12. You mean the ones at the entrance in AŞTİ? I remember those too, lol. Back in 1995 they had a Bosnian stand and a Chechen stand with posters and other memento for sale along with donation boxes at each stand. AŞTİ is a favourite meeting point for Islamists and other conservative folk. You can easily tell looking at the titles in the bookshops. Nothing like your Victoria Station. I don't like Ankara very much anyway. I only go there to visit my cousin and friends.
  13. Kosovo is settled already. I don't see any possibility for Serbia to hold on to them. They couldn't keep their fellow Serbs in Montenegro in the fold. How they will keep Kosovo is beyond me. The fanaticism of the Albanians is something I've never encountered anywhere else. And this from first hand experience dealing with Turkish Albanian associations. When the war first broke out I did some freelance editing and translating for these associations and NGOs (which I do from time to time in between jobs). Even the Turkish Albanians, who by the way are almost totally assimilated and hardly speak a word of Albanian, went into a frenzy and turned into the most inane rabble-rousing bunch I've ever met. The Turks who fled from Kosovo or were repatriated really dislike the Albanians and are much more sympathetic towards the Serbs. I even translated KLA press releases, bulletins and other material for them, which was meant for the Turkish crowd. It was exhausting, but they paid good money. One thing I must admit is that Albanians really stick together and really used this to their advantage by instigating the whole thing and letting NATO do their dirty work.
  14. Granted because of the dhimmi precept they treated their slaves better than the Spanish conquistadores. But still they meted out unbelievably cruel forms of punishment and retributions to those who resisted them in warfare. You are probably aware what they did to the civilians in the Balkans. Not to mention all the "picturesque" forms of torture and execution styles which were used in the Ottoman empire and which one can read in Murat Bardakçı's column.
  15. It was very racist. No need to muddle the waters. When you think of the whole preatorian-nomadic military system they have used, there is no difference. They were only slightly better than the Mongols.
  16. The Ottoman machinery itself was racist from the beginning. But then racism wasn't an issue in those times. It's wrong to compare or judge countries, nations with today's value system.
  17. Is it true that companies like Hallmark come up with special days in order to generate sales? I never thought so, but after seeing such "holidays" like "Residual Horniness Day" and "Kinky Exploration Day", I'm not so sure.
  18. It's better to erase all irrelevant posts on this page and the previous, including my message. It has no place here and it's disrespectful to the memory of Hrant Dink.
  19. He regularly comes to Turkey. I've seen him in a TV programme here recently. I know that he couldn't visit Turkey back in the eighties and nineties after he escaped from prison. I saw his father's funeral announcement in a paper a few months ago. He was to buried in Ankara and Taner Akçam came too. All I know is that Kurdish militants were or are still after him, for what reason I don't know.
  20. I remember that song and the fundraising effort that went with it very well. It was part of a very long-lasting fundraising campaign by Aznavour in 1990 or 1991. The media coverage it got was enormous.
  21. Don't worry. He'll find his way around eventually.
  22. Let those who have lost Constantinople grieve for it. Asterisks won't hide the bitter truth.
  23. Some things are just not reversible. You do have a point though I admit.
  24. Whatever he is alluding to?
