[25] “There were stores within of wheat and barley and vegetables, and wine made from barley in great big bowls; the grains of barley malt lay floating in the beverage up to the lip of the vessel, and reeds lay in them, some longer, some shorter, without joints; when you were thirsty you must take one of these into your mouth, and suck. The beverage without admixture of water was very strong, and of a delicious flavour to certain palates, but the taste must be acquired.”

http://www.kilikia.am/index.html I had a bottle of Erebuni about 5 years ago, and if memory serves me correct ... I found it to be quite decent. I'd say it was somewhat similar to Becks, a nice refreshing brew but nothing to write home about. Compared to Heineken, I'll take an Erebuni. Now Kilikia, on the other hand, is simply superb! It is my opinion that Kilikia is one of the best lagers/pilsners being produced today. Yes, it really is that good. I would put Kilikia up there with any high quality European lager or pilsner - I have sampled more than my share and I assure you, Kilikia is absolutely Top Shelf. One thing I am sure of is that I will definitely not go thirsty when I arrive in Hayastan on 05/25 ...

I ask that you substantiate these dubious statements which you have made; 1) "Monte was born in about the same year." Is not a fact, that you were born in 1951? I ask you, sir, is this an accurate and truthful statement for someone who claims to be a "truth" hound? 2) "…and when I went to graduate school, he [Monte Melkonian] went to graduate school in Beirut." Is it not a fact, that Monte Melkonian was admitted to a graduate school at Oxford? I ask you, sir, is this an accurate and truthful statement for someone who claims to be a "truth" hound? 3) "…and [Monte Melkonian] started selling arms and started selling drugs…" Is it not true, that according to people who knew him, including those who spoke up at their own initiative, have indicated that Monte was adamantly opposed to drugs, be it for use or for sale? Is it not true, that according to one of Monte's brothers-in-arms, once Monte, already a Commander of Martuni Defense Region, refused Samvel Babayan, Commander of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army, to promote an officer only because he smoked marijuana? Is it not true, that Monte earned himself highly influential enemies after burning lucrative cannabis fields in a noble attempt to shut down the local drug trade? I ask you, sir, is your claim that Monte "started selling drugs" an accurate and truthful statement for someone who claims to be a "truth" hound? 4) "…he [Monte Melkonian] started a terrorist movement." Is it not a fact, that ASALA was founded in 1975 in Beirut, Lebanon by Harutiun Takoshian, alias Hagop Hagopian? I ask you, sir, is your claim that "he started a terrorist movement" an accurate and truthful statement for someone who claims to be a "truth" hound? 5) "…he [Monte Melkonian] was in jail in France, for having masterminded several bombings in Europe, at Orly Airport " Is it not a fact, that Monte Melkonian was arrested for possession of a falsified passport and an illegal handgun in Paris on November 28, 1985? Is it not a fact, that the only ones convicted of the Orly airport attack were Varadjian Garbidjian , Soner Nayir, Ohannes Semerci? I urge everyone to email him and respectfully demand an explanation and a public apology for these blatant false statements. I have very little doubt that he is funded or at the very least supported by Ramkavars. What a disgrace!

The Turkish government owes it's people an explanation and admission of the truth about the crimes which were committed in their history. Turks cannot continue any longer to go on living a lie if they are to ever move forward and become whole, they must face the truth and initiate a meaningful resolution. Alan Hovhaness (03/08/1910 - 06/20/2000) If you're not already familiar with Hovhaness, I'd like to introduce you to an extraordinarily prolific Armenian-American composer with nearly 70 symphonies and nearly 500 opus numbers in his repertoire. Music lovers of all styles and genres are sure to enjoy the wonderful compositions of Alan. Hovhaness was born Alan Vaness Chakmakjian in the affluent Boston suburb of Somerville, Massachusetts on March 8, 1911. His Armenian father, Haroutioun Hovanes Chakmakjian, came from Adana (now in Turkey) and was a chemistry professor at Tufts College. His mother Madeleine Scott, was of Scottish ancestry, and did not especially approve of young Alan's learning about Armenian culture from his father. She ensured he was known simply as Alan Scott Vaness, which is the name seen on his earliest music. After her death in 1931, the composer used the surname Hovaness (after his paternal grandfather) later adding an 'h' around 1942, and so becoming Hovhaness. Without parental encouragement, Hovhaness was drawn to music by the age of 4. He apparently first composed using his own notation, but could read music at the age of 7. He once said that he never "wanted to become" a composer, but that the act of composing just seemed natural to him. Certainly it would seem that Hovhaness, who had no siblings, was born with a creative streak, as he also pursued writing and painting. Another boyhood interest was astronomy. By age 14 however, he had firmly decided on a musical path. In conjunction with a high school librettist, Hovhaness penned his earliest operas Lotus Blossom, Bluebeard and Daniel. Throughout his teens he apparently composed secretly, which usually meant at night. "My family thought writing music was abnormal, so they would confiscate my music if they caught me in the act. I used to compose in the bathroom and hide the manuscripts under the bathtub." This nocturnal creativity was maintained throughout his life. As a boy, he acquired a love of mountains through long walks and apparent metaphysical experiences in the hills of New England. Such landscapes were the frequent subjects of his paintings and drawings. Mountains always remained important to him, determining the locales in which he chose to live, such as Lucerne in Switzerland and Seattle on the Pacific Coast, and would prove to be a lifelong inspiration for many evocatively-titled works, such as Mountain of Prophecy and Vision From High Rock. Hovhaness' collegiate education began at Tufts College and his musical training was in the normal academic fashion. Although his upbringing seems to have been a relatively conventional one for a Bostonian, Hovhaness early on possessed a keen interest in matters of a spiritual nature.
