Zartonk
Has there ever been any discovery of the script invented by the Mesopotamian bishop Daniel rumored to have been the first candidate of our alphabet, but soon dismissed as an unsuitable phoenetic match? Was it exclusivley Pagan, Semetic or Post-Aramean?
gamavor
Never heard of such rumors! It must have been Armenian "rumors" otherwise could not exist for so long. By the way, Pagan, Semitic, and Post-Aramean have absolutely nothing in common. The 'enlightened' western and turkish 'historians', as well as (not intentionally) many Arabs, do not make difference between Armenian and Aramean, which technically makes Jesus Christ Armenian, which is quite possible, because although he was well educated, he was jobless, he had long hair, messed around with girls but never touched them, lived with his parents past teenage years and finally was betrated by a Jew and executed with a sanction of a Roman. Aren, sorry but what is this bull**** about Danielian alphabet?
Dave
We know that Mesrob Mashdots consulted Daniel (a Mesopotamian Archbishop) when he researched to make the Armenian Alphabet. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10211a.htm Edited July 12, 2005 by Dave

It might all be BS after all. Just curious, because I wont mind getting to the bottom of this deal.. Edited June 19, 2013 by Zartonk
Arpa
lol2: This is bul***t I read in Heritage of Armenian literature...All I know is that Daniel was some Syriac archp. and the alphabet was EITHER a pagan's made-up symbols to keep temple records OR some Semitic alphabet OR somthing similiar to Aramean script, which Mashtots and the gang dissmissed because it was too weak to phoneticaly. Might, after all, be all BS. style_images/master/snapback.png I didn't want to say it but you used the correct terms. ====== Danielian Alphabet? Of all the firsts we Armenians boast about we must add another. We may be the world’s premier mythifiers, myth mongerers. Consider the myth of Haik and Bel, I mean the Hebraized version. The myth of being descendants of Noah. The myth of the Chinese origin of the Mamikoneans. The myth of Jewish origin of the Bagratunis. The above have been discussed in length in other threads. AS to Noah, we are also the best shooters onself in the foot. According to some crack historians the Noah flood happened some 2000 years BC. Our Karahunj dates back to 7500 BC. Enough said! And now we come to the myth of the Danielian Alphabets. Ajarian has extensive writings about the subject which me may take up as we go on. Suffice it to say that the whole affair seems to be a figment of the imagination of some historians and pseudo-scholars. Misinterpretations, misreading of history, or rather a wishful reading thereof. There is even those who think that the whole thing was a hoax and that the said Daniel was an imposter offering his so called alphabet to King Vramshapuh for a fee. In conclusion. Ajarian, among many arguments, advances this; If there in fact there was such an alphabet. He even refutes those who may claim that the evidence was destroyed by Lousavorich. We have not seen even a word, never mind a sentence or a book written. Besides the so called alphabet (22 characters)was totally unfit for the Armenian language and phonology. That is why Mashtots dismissed it without even considreation. We can cite some details and arguments pro an con. I have asked this on many occasions, I will ask again. What if all the above myths were true? What good will come out of it? What benefit is it to us? What good has come out in the past and what good will it be in the future? Dave
Would it really make a difference if it was true?
Zartonk
Thank you Arpa. Enough learned, and honestly (as far as the myths benefitting us goes), I think they don't change anything.
