Teaching long division!

Not sure about division specifically, but when I tutor I find many things are best explained using money. Maybe you can have them divide 10 into 100 (dimes in a dollar), 5 into 200 (nickels in two dollars), etc.

I have tried everything! I have had students use graph paper, use their lined paper vertically so they will have columns, use beans to divide the basic division facts to get a feel for the root concept, subtract the divisor from the dividend continuously so they see that division will give you a smaller number. Still, even my best math students make silly mistakes! They will give me a quotient that is bigger than the dividend! Help!!!
