bellthecat
Yes? Whatzitsay, Arpa, Nairi, anyone, (P.S. - sorry about the quality of the scan, it's all I have. It's from a book published in Tblisi in 1908.) http://mysite.freeserve.com/virtualani/ani_poem.jpg Edited September 17, 2004 by bellthecat
Arpa
Yet another ode to "Our Glorious Past". "Avagh parats@s antsavori", alas to our glorious past Another lament. Reminds one of Siamanto's "Ap m@ mokhir Hayreni tun", A fistful of ashes- my fathers' house(motherland) that goes; "Avagh! aparanqi m@ pes mets eyir ou shqegh". Alas! You were great and magnificent as a palace.... Sorry for the above editorial. I have taken some poetic liberty below even if the spirit which at times I don't quite understand, is intact. ANI I enter Ani... convents in ruins, You, the mute witness to a past so proud, To a proud past, you, our proud memory, With feelings of pride I approach you. Ani, one time you were mighty With walls so prosperous and gigantic, Even today you are as mighty Even with ruins of those mighty walls. Death of a hero is as noble and great, Just as life- heroic as well, He must die. If he lived a righteous life. Only a slave will live forever. E(?). Proshian Who is E. Proshian? Not Perj. I don't think.
bellthecat
Thank you Arpa. The editorial is forgiven. It is from an Armenian monthly periodical called GEGHARUEST, volume 1, 1908. It was on ebay. Steve

In one of the Armenian weeklies a front page story: Turkey to Hold Festival of Concerts in the Ruins of Ani This Weekend: Armenians Among Participants. It would have happened this past Sunday Sept. 26. Turkish Georgian and Armenian musicians and choirs were supposed to participate. Prof. Alexander Safarian of YSU and Prof. Ashot Soghomonian were supposed to speak Kaan Soyak of NY Chairman of TABDC was supposed to participate as well
bellthecat
Steve, did you know about this? I could not find the article on the net. No - I didn't know about it. But, isn't surprising, since nobody tells me anything anyway.
