Latvia to host young performers' festival

Latvia's Jurmala resort is to host the third New Wave international festival of young pop music performers; this contest is to open at the Dzintari concert hall (that seats more than 2,000) July 28, lasting until August 1.

 

The finals will involve 16 singers from 13 countries, i.e. Armenia, Germany, Israel, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Russia, the United States, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Estonia. Russia will be represented by Alexei Chumakov, Anastasia Gonchar and Irina Dubtsova, as well as by the Mikki-Zlata duo.

 

The winner will get the Crystal Wave prize, as well as $25,000. Those placing second and third will be entitled to diplomas, as well as $20,000 and $15,000, respectively.

 

Each participant will sing his or her national song the very first day, i.e. July 29. Singers will perform hits to their liking in the second round; meanwhile the third round will feature songs, which were written especially for this festival.

 

All performers shall be judged by a jury under the supervision of composers Igor Krutoi and Raimonds Pauls, who had organized this festival. The jury includes well-known composers and singers Vladimir Matetsky, Igor Nikolayev, Leonid Agutin, Laima Vaikule, as well as British producer Steve Lyon.

 

Many Russian pop stars, as well as Great Britain's Bony Tyler and Thomas Anders, have been invited to attend the festival.

 

Anastasia Stotskaya, who won the 2002 New Wave contest, will attend this year's opening ceremony, with Philip Kirkorov singing at the Dzintari concert hall that same evening, after the ceremony winds up.

 

Josef Kobzon, who will host the contest's second evening, was unable to attend last year because Latvian authorities had declared him persona non grata, who allegedly threatened national security.

 

Latvia's newly-appointed Interior Minister Eriks Jekabsons decided not to blacklist the Russian singer a month ago and to allow him to enter the country.

Yerevan, July 29. The 3rd international competition New Wave is opening Yurmala (Latvia) today. Armenia is represented by Hayer vocal quartet. The soloist of the quartet Emmy took part in the 2nd New Wave last year receiving the audience award.

I have heard that one of them is Nadezhda Sargsyan's daughter. Not sure though. N.Sargsyan had a similar kind of quartet some 7-8 years ago.

«Hayer»

Four Caucasian tsarevnas in the face of four members of the band “Hayer” from Armenia (Emma, Nelly, Jaklin and Arshaluis) are ready to give to the audience of the Competition “New Wave -2204” inexhaustible friendliness and real Eastern aroma. The more so, as the girls are real patriots of their country. They like Armenian poets and writers, respect national cuisine. Shashlik, kebab, tolma, kufta - these dishes are not only adored by the girls, but they can also cook them with the names sounding as a song of the Armenian language.

All four participants live in the capital of Armenia – Erevan. They form a real team: the diligence of two “Aries” is added by the energy of Capricorn and the caution of Cancer. And this well-organized ensemble has already got success. The girls recall with great proud when the national flag of Armenia was hoisted in their honour at the competition in Germany. But this is not their limit. These Armenian girls have in plans to take part in the final part of the competition “Pesnya goda” (“The song of the year”) or perhaps to participate in the Competition “New Wave” on the Mars in fifty years! The girls wish to have their own cars and houses, but most of all they want to have their own solo album. As for a recording studio in the form of a present, Armenian girls do not really want such a present because they are afraid of getting infarction out of joy!

They attend different clubs of dances, go in for sport and cook with pleasure. In general they do all the things that other girls of their age do. By the way, two participants still study at school. Arshaluis, however, would close all schools if she were a president. As for Emma, if she were a president, she would prohibit signing with the help of recording devices. That is because she is so much sure of herself and her strength.

Participation in competitions, festivals and concerts: the year 2001 - International Competition “Malenkie zvezdochki” (“Little stars”) (Bulgaria, Varna, Grand Prix); the year 2001 – International Competition “Rojdestvenskie vstrechi” (“Christmas meetings”) (Estonia, Tallinn, the first prize); the year 2002 – the winners of the programme “Utrennaya zvezda” (“Morning star”) (Moscow); the year 2002 – International Competition “Berliner Perle” (Grand Prix); the year 2002 – the participants of the super final part of the programme “Utrennaya zvezda” (“Morning star”) (Moscow); the year 2003 – International Competition “New Wave” (“Novaya Volna”) (Jurmala, Latvia, back-vocal); the year 2003 – Republican Competition “Krunk” (the status of a laureate for original performance of the composition “Tanec s sablami” (A dance with sabers”) by A. Hachaturan from the ballet “Gayane”); the year 2003 – Awarding of the National TV of Armenia “NMT” ( The best pop - band of the year”)

The girls take with them as many pairs of shoes as can be located in their luggage and they are even ready to share them with other participants in case they will not have enough. That sounds noble! The members of the band “Hayer” are going to share their love and optimism with the audience of the Competition. The opinion of the band’s leader has influenced the choice of the songs. The girls are eager to go at the Competition “New Wave” in order to see again the team of organizers and to feel on themselves professional characteristics of stylists of the image-agency “PERSONA”.
