Guest DoJudo
I have a big problem with this show on FX. They show the "Armenian Mob" and Armenians in LA dealing drugs, murdering, and a whole bunch of other rackets. Then they show this chick who's from Armenia having sex with the undercover detective. Why? Why are they portraying Armenians as crooks and sluts? More important question is can we do something about it? The damage has been done already. I remember when the "Sopranos" aired the Italian-Americans protested against the show. Though they were unsuccessful, in return they got a media coverage on the more positive side of their culture. Is this what we should ask of FX?
nairi
Because we have those people among us. Big deal. You want Armenians portrayed as angels, feel free to come up with your own show.
gurgen
I don't really see the problem. Black people have been portrayed as crack dealers for ages, just like Italians have been portrayed as Mafia. We have some bad people among us as well. Guest DoJudo
the problem I have is that there has been no positive portrayal of the Armenians on such TV shows. Not that I can remember of anyway. Subsequently, those who are not familiar with the Armenian culture will get the wrong impression of the Armenians who live in LA, they will not think that these are the minority among us. As for the other cultures such as Blacks and Italian-Americans they are given the positive attention that they deserve. Why couldn't one of the decent cops be Armenian, just for the heck of it? There are decorated members of law enforcement within the LAPD who are of Armenian decent.
gamavor
Bah, who cares. I'm dreaming for the moment when Armenians will finally realize that America is not their country and their residence here is temporary.
gurgen
Yep, who cares what they think. If people can be brainwashed enough to vote for Bush there's no use fighting against stereotypes. Edited August 22, 2004 by gurgen
