Virus Hoaxes

Dateline: 01/10/97

There have been a lot of virus hoaxes over the years. They come and go and usually prey upon newbies, the new users of the Internet. They've been around since 1988, when the 2400 baud modem virus hoax was first distributed. Hoaxes are usually created to play a joke on non-computer users or newbies to the Internet. However, some specifically point out companies like Microsoft or Datafellows, potentially causing financial damage to the company. This formulates the idea that some hoaxes are aimed at hurting the reputation of given companies.
