The Next U.s. Base

Iraq, the next US base?

KnightOfArmenia had this to say on June 4.

See subject topic; "Is This a Joke?"

The US did just receive such a state: it's called Iraq. When you conquer a country you can pretty much do what you want, and you'd have to be pretty naive to think that the Iraqis are going to have full, actual sovereignty over their country. They'll be about as independent as South Vietnam.

On the surface it may seem an idle remark. It is not so idle if we consider what has transpired and what will very soon. It's been over a year when the US forces landed in Baghdad. Original wishful thinking was that this was to be an operation of a few days, or at best a few months. But even at the inception there were those who doubted it and suggested that it will be a matter of years, many years. Did they know something that we didn't? Did they know that this foray was just an excuse to shift the US forces further east?

If we were to listen to the latest news we would see that old alliances and strategic placement of forces are soon to be reviewed. There are those who propose that one third of the troops in Korea be redeployed to Iraq. The reasoning being that we need more forces in the latter. Some are proposing to withdraw our troops from Germany, Italy and other stable bases since they don't serve the intended purpose, meaning that East Europe is not a threat anymore, that the front has moved further east.

And neither is Russia as it was some time ago.

Now that we have read the message, we have read between the lines...

So, shall we assume that the bases in Turkey will bcome obsolete and an unnecessary burden?

Shall we assume that Iraq will be the next...

U.S. BASE ????
