Strabo About Armenians

" Now as for Adiabenê, the most of it consists of plains; and though it too is a part of Babylonia, still it has a ruler of its own; and in some places it borders also on Armenia. For the Medes and the Armenians, and third the Babylonians, the three greatest of the tribes in that part of the world, were so constituted from the beginning, and continued to be, that at times opportune for each they would attack one another and in turn become reconciled. And this continued down to the supremacy of the Parthians. Now the Parthians rule over the Medes and the Babylonians, but they have never once ruled over the Armenians; indeed, the Armenians have been attacked many times, but they could not be overcome by force, since Tigranes opposed all attacks mightily, as I have stated in my description of Armenia. Such, then, is Adiabenê; and the Adiabeni are also called Saccopodes; but I shall describe Mesopotamia and the tribes on the south, after briefly going over the accounts given of the customs of Assyria. "

Strabo's Geography is an excelent piece of science and knowlege. Unlike our own historians, Strabo's accuracy and consistancy are priceless. His Geography contains lots of information about Armenians.

While browsing the pages of Strabo’s geography one thing could not evade my sight.

We read about Babylon, Parthia, Medea, Troja, Armenia and many others who have made their large or small, significant of insignificant marks in the human history and inevitably there is a feeling of loneliness and emptiness, because all they are gone, with one exception.

What is it? Is it in our genes? Our genome? The hawk nose and the piercing eyes? The will to be around for another few millennia? Many of the ancients are simply history. Boastful Assyrians, artful Medes, powerful Parthian, not to speak about Ethrusians, Arameans, Scythes, Alanis, Summerian, and dozen of others.

Even the mighty Romans are gone. But we are still around. And Armenia is still there

“And that it is right here on the clear Sevan

that the sky could make its exact duplicate

Simply David has indeed fought right here

Simply the Narek was written right here

Simply we know how to build from the rock, a monastery

How to make fish from stone, how to make man from clay”

There are a few Assyrians left, in Iraq. Actually there's a lady who's Assyrian who goes to my church. I know another lady whose father is half-Hye, half-Assyrian.

The others are all gone, though. And of course, there's no country of Assyria, anymore.

I attribute it to pure stubbornness. Armenians are just plain stubborn. We're never going to give up while we're still breathing. Is that a good trait to have? Well- we're still here, right! :)

Good stuff.
