Don't you mean colored water as in melan/ink?:newyear:

What is the connection of melan to melanin?

I'm not sure, but this may have been discussed before, it does seem familiar. Should I do a search? :P

But I know that melanos (or thereabouts) means black in Greek. Ink is black. Melanesians are pretty dark islanders. Melanin makes us tan. :)

Speaking of, I'm thinking of overdosing on carrots to get a naturally dark tan next beach vacation. :) Anybody done this before? Somebody said they knew someone who tanned unusually dark by eating two kilos of carrots before lying out in the sun, but somehow I don't think anyone can eat all that in a day.

Haha - sorry for straying off-topic, but carrots can be gardened, too! :P Eat carrots for a better tan!

Love carrottes provençale, btw - anything with garlic. ;)

Yes is does.

But this thread not being in the Language category I decided not to go beyong the "joke".

Melanos means "blacK" and there are many words based on it , melanin is the pigment in our skins that darkens when exposed to UV. Melan in Armenian refers to only black ink, the general term for ink is "tanaq" which can be of any color.

However, as stated this not being the proper subject topic I qill stop here. We may decide to get back to the linguistics of the word and when we do, please let us do under the proper topic and hopefully not draw it into a racial debate. Otherwise we may all be melancholic, i.e. full of "black humor/sev maghts/melamaghtsot".
