MosJan
Statement by Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry In Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide April 22, 2004 "April 24th marks the 89th anniversary of the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. Between 1915 and 1923 the rulers of the old Ottoman Empire killed or deported over 1.5 million Armenian men, women and children in a systematic policy of ethnic extermination." "I thank Armenian Americans for their persistence in the struggle to gain international recognition of this atrocity. By keeping the memory of this tragedy alive, Armenian Americans remind us all of our collective responsibility to insure that such horrors are not repeated. I am proud of my work with the Armenian American community to gain broader recognition of the Armenian Genocide, including fighting alongside Senator Robert Dole in 1990 for designation of April 24 as a national day of remembrance for this tragedy." "I have been an unwavering supporter of many other important Armenian issues. In 1992, I authored an amendment to the Freedom Support Act making U.S. aid to Azerbaijan conditional on it taking steps to end its blockades against Armenia and Nagorno Artsax. I supported the Humanitarian Aid Corridor Act in 1996 which prohibits U.S. assistance to any country that restricts the delivery of U.S. humanitarian aid to another country. In 2003, I cosponsored legislation to extend "permanent normal trade relations" (PNTR) to Armenia. This January, I joined Senators Barbara Boxer, George Allen, Paul Sarbanes, Russ Feingold, and Jon Corzine in asking the President to urge Turkey to lift its embargo of Armenia." "I join Armenian Americans and Armenians worldwide in mourning the victims of the Armenian Genocide and I call on governments and people everywhere to formally recognize this tragedy. Only by learning from this dark period of history and working to prevent future genocides can we truly honor the memories of those Armenians who suffered so unjustly." bellthecat
Political manoeuvre at its best. Typical Domino, never satisfied with anything. Or are you worried that you will have to find a new obsession if everyone starts to recognise the genocide?
DominO123
Typical Domino, never satisfied with anything. Or are you worried that you will have to find a new obsession if everyone starts to recognise the genocide? Oy yeh! I see, from Steves opinion there is nothing wrong with a political figure trying to find supports by exploiting a tragedy. We have seen that with Bush as well, I hope American Armenians are not that amnesic.

Yeh, because the genocide was officialy voted and recognised... here in Canada, I do not remember, any potential prime minister promessing to recognise it. If you can't respect a promess you just don't make such promesses. More particularly when it concerns a tragedy. Bush did the same and many others as well, but when they take power, everything changes.
Vigil
I didn't hear you making complaints after Canada's parliament and its political figures recognised the genocide. Or maybe you will, since you seem to want to gripe if they do and gripe if they don't. You have to understand that Armenian American votes have been sought using the genocide as a catalyst in getting elected by the American Presidents in the past. So for Armenians to question Kerry's motives is understandable due to fact that they have blatently been lied to by every single president their tax dollars have funded. I bring up the fact that Armenians pay "tax dollars" because in Glendale Armenian "tax payers" are somtimes labeled as paying "tributes" as opposed to "taxes" in the eyes of the older nazi "Glendalians", who somtimes forget that Armenians are "tax payers" as well and are entitled to the fair share of the pie. Maral
well allrighty then...this is the response I got from one of the poeple I forwarded this site too... For those of you that are clueless and really believe John Kerry gives a crap about Armenians, the short answer is because of our alliances with Turkey and Germany no president will ever make a move to get the Genocide recognized. Just about every president in the last 20 years has made a comment about how they believe in the genocide and would like to see it recognized and did nothing. Buy all means, I think we should keep pushing the issue, but to vote for someone because you think they will help us get the genocide recognized is a little below intelligent. So, more importantly...if you would like to see Muslim terrorists stopped and brought to justice, end gay marrage, affirmative action, abortion; start drilling for oil in Alaska instead of buying it for Saudi Arabia, bring big corporate CEO to justice for comitting fraud, break down the welfare system so that the hoochie mama's don't drain our social security with their 19 children, and keep a little more of your paycheck, please vote for George W. Bush. Thanks, and have a great day...especially Maral and silva! haha Mr. Jack, Ph.D.
Vigil
First of all I would like to say that Professor Jack is pretty naive if he thinks that any president will do any of the things he has mentioned because a actual polical analyst will tell you that both candidates are just spouting bull$hit. No body knows where America is heading and if anyone tells you they do than they are full of $hit. However, Mr. Bush is not the right choice for this country and if you honestly think he is than I pity you because you are truly the sap of the media. But I would like to make some comments... For those of you that are clueless and really believe John Kerry gives a crap about Armenians, the short answer is because of our alliances with Turkey and Germany no president will ever make a move to get the Genocide recognized. I do not know where you have been "Professor", but last time I checked Turkey was not on America's favorites list due to obvious reasons. The only alliance America has with Germany is the one in your head because Bush has labeled Germany, France, and the rest of Europe that was against the war as "Old Europe" and Americans generally discard what they precieve as "useless" or in this case "old". The ties that America established with Europe has gone down the toilet due to the Texen's idiocy. Buy all means, I think we should keep pushing the issue, but to vote for someone because you think they will help us get the genocide recognized is a little below intelligent. Yes, is it true that in the past American presidents lied to Armenians, nevertheless, the recent events are playing in our favor. With the NYTimes change in policy, Canada's recognition, and the political miscalculations implemented by Ankara signals a new age for Armenians lobby for recognition. To say that he wheels of progress are not turning is inaccurate at best because they do turn , but they turn slowly. Canada called Turkey's bluff now its time to wait and see how the international welfare case (Turkey) will respond. If they do nothing, like always, than it will motivate America to take the same steps because they will finally realize that Turkey is more dependent on the world rather than the opposite. As far as voting goes let it be known that I do not believe in democracy, however, I do vote, but only if it will benefit Armenians. So if the ANC or any Armenian lobby says vote for these issue I will because we do owe them that much and by the way they do look out for the community. In fact like TAP stated in one of his writings many Armenians would have been considered "terrorists" if Armenians in these groups did not dedicate their time to lobby for us. Bush. From this statement I can already tell Professor Jack is a idealist that has already been brainwashed by the "elite media" into thinking that all these problems will be solved when "world renowned bullshitt....economist" have already stated that half these problems are only going to be solved by long term policies. If he is, then Maral please advise him to do the world a favour and practice on himself what he practiced on others. Naw, that would be too unlikely! So if he isn't that person then why can't the creep come here himself and post his rantings in person. Or does his obvious brainlessness extend to not knowing how to work a computer? I suggested he come here and discuss the issue...we'll see. Siamanto> Of course, expecting that Senator Kerry may actually "come here and discuss the issue...is NOT a little below intelligent!" By the way, personally, I find it a bit naive - and "a la Turque" - this habit of "signing to impress." Who cares if you're a "doctor" or not. We can only react to ideas you express! Armat, Vigil, It is true that I have an extremely negative opinion of Bush (I'm being polite!!) Even if I did not have, I would be inclined to opt for a President from a State with a strong Armenian Community! Regards, Siamanto.
