Doggy Pounds

For those of you who may have dogs, I'd like to ask advice on how to get a dog (my doggy) to lose weight.

She has been experiencing an upsurge of appetite ever since she was sterilised some years ago. Contrast that with the fact that she would leave half her food for it to go yucky and stale to be thrown away when she was younger.

This is going to sound dumb, because I know that you have to balance calory intake and calory spending, but I can't cut down on the food because that is not under my control but someone else's, someone that doesn't know how to listen. <_< Part of the problem is that she is used to home-made food and loathes dogfood, so portions of scrap can't be cut down on ("It is a sin to throw food away" but apparently it is not a sin to waste an organism's health).

I also can't boost the exercise, because after my own day and two hours of my own exercise, I can't bring myself to take her out more than half an hour or what have you. I have to admit it's not impossible to do more (as we've done two-hour spells and in the snow to boot!), but there are only so many places I can take her and it has become very boring for me. I feel like a penguin tracing the same route over and over.

I know there is no magic wand to this, but all parties involved don't seem to be willing to make a drastic change to their ways anytime soon. (I don't get the person that won't cut down on the food - you can understand my exercise point.) Has anyone faced a similar situation with a surprise success story? Medication, that sort of stuff? It's difficult because this is for someone else, not me, usually don't have problems there, LOL...

Gevo, I think I already said she doesn't at all like dogfood. If left alone with it for three days, she wouldn't starve, she'd eat it, and I would do this, but I think it should be clear that nobody dares to change their ways and if I were to put her through that regimen (or even just cutting down on what she eats), someone would sabotage it.

Thanks anyway.
