Nuri-Nuri means rain bride. In old times the dolls were used to ask rain from the sky on hot days or during drought. They also came to symbolize abundance and fertility.

I have no idea where the "nuri-nuri" comes from except that "nur" means light in some languages.

The above article, even if it gets into the topic tangentially fails to mention that during "vardavar", or was it during Astvatsatsin, specially after a very dry summer, the local children would fashion a "harsnuk", a stick bride and parade it door to door soliciting, asking for the little bride be doused with a "spoonful of water" or a "spoonful of salt", the latter as a symbol of fertility and the former for a rainfall(hydration) with recitations sung in rhyme like; "Harsnuk@ inch e khnrats? Mi dgal agh the mi dgal thats?" (A spoonful of salt or a spoonful of wet?)(Rhyme fitted by me) And the homeowner would respond in relevant fashion.
