Glendale School District Disaster

Vigil

I would like to add that Armenians have contributed too much of the social atmosphere in this city and own the majority of the commercial and industrial enterprises. Most of the doctors, lawyers, dentists, accountants, and public administrative staff are of Armenian ancestry and have been an intricate part of the development of Glendale. In fact many of the decision makers of this,

Precisely my point, its takes thousands to build up a good name, yet it takes few bad rats to destroy it all.

Note.My deepest apologies Vigil,

I wanted to quote the above from your first post yet somehow I erased it, I will try to restore your original post.

Very well said Vigil, and I agree with most of the high level ideas that you mentioned. Non Armenian Glendaleians have a very negative opinion of us, yes we have to take some of the blame, but much of it is over blown.

About the KKK. I did not know that. But 100% true, the American Nazi party had offices on Colorado till the early 80s.

Well said. Glendale and the Valley is very intolerant place. I can tell you 100% that it is easier for an Armenian to become friends with a non-Armenian anywhere else other then Glendale and Burbank. But what can you do if you were in their place you'd probably being doing the same. Look at Armenia itself when not even "othars" but actual armenians moved there they were discriminated against. I guess you can't really blame a bigot for being a racist can you. It will hopefully go away overtime and doesn't turn into an ugly event.

the funny thing is Bobs Big Boy is actually owned by an Armenian.

  • 1 month later...

Your right about glendale whites... I remember years ago my incounters with the Police. I was told by my Attorney not to drive, walk or fly over Glendale because of my deeds, I'm certain lot off it was because of my Armenian heritage, Offcourse as you said we are not all angels but when you make off color remarks to an Armenian you will get some turbulance. ;)

Btw, I'm still not an angel

It has nothing to do with your Armenian heritage and everything to do of your behavior, in 24 years I have lived in los Angeles aria I never experienced single incident of discrimination or issues such as you mention it, we must realize that we are part of the community and obey the law just like everyone else regardless of our ethnicity. There are always narrow mined individuals in both sides, in any given place you go to.

It has nothing to do with our "behavior" because our "behavior" has logically nothing to do with saving almost a quarter of the million dollars that can be reinvested in a already bankrupt educational budget.

Explain to me like a "2 year" old how your logic makes sense? So are saying that Armenians do not "deserve" to get a holiday because we sure as hell know it will help not just Armenians, but the community in general? In fact the measure is being implemented not at the request of Armenians because we all know in Glendale Armenians are more comfortable paying tributes rather than taxes, but rather the measure was brought into the spot light by the educational board.

Sorry, but your argument is flawed and I do not buy it because they used the same "crux" excuse when the American flag was lowered half staff, while they quickly reverted to using the bankrupt budget as a excuse to get rid of the Armenian language courses at the community college. How can they now state that funding is not important when just a few years ago it was the main reason why they complained?

I believe it has more to do with the fact that Americans get jealous when a new ethnic group in general becomes more successful in their own environment. They are not blind and see that within 10 years we have progress much farther than the rest and because of this try to "bring us down" not due to logical reasons, but rather out of spite.

Again I would like to point out how Edward has selfishly sold out his own kind to gain the affection of the "otar". Edward I wonder how good it feels knowing that you basically labeled Armenians in Glendale as a "problem", when in fact they are the ones that need to reassess their behavior because we dam well know that saving $250,000 in sunk costs would contribute to the welfare of the city regardless of the "behavior of the Armenians".

However, as much as I would like to be the "white mans" slave I would like to clue you in on some things that the so-called "white man" has done to his own "white" kind.

The Irish, Italians, and the rest of the "Europeans" were also told the same things during the turn of the century when they committed more vicious crimes than some petty white collar crimes that a very small part of Armenian population actually may commit.

In fact the outdated and false science of Eugenics was used to classify which sub sects of the white community was in fact the most "civilized", so, please be careful in trying to justify the way the "Anglos" treat Armenians because any new group is going to use illegal means to meet their needs.

Also, this thread was not about justifying the actions of any criminal, but rather it was to show the rampant racism in Glendale that Armenians constantly face.

Edward again I would like to thank you for stabbing the Armenian community in the back, your all class, buddy.

Vigil,

I see your shallow observation of my comments, and who the hell are you to conclude that I have stubbed or stubbing Armenian community or Armenians?

Try another approach, and becerful with your vocabulary selection, you have no idea of who I'm, and what are my contributions to this day to Armenian community and to Armenia. I stated baisic fact! If you read my comment carefully you would have realised it was not addressed to Armenians but one in particular, further more it wasn’t to you!

Hence your immature remarks are baseless and tasteless. You want to be respected and accepted? Try another approach! Here, or in life, no one is arguing one should preserve its identity, but the question is how? Now answer me that, "Armenian power and Armenians are #1" mentality is way out of my "league" you picked the wrong person to argue with!!

Did you not state that "It has nothing to do with your Armenian heritage and everything to do of your behavior", now, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't imply that Armenians in fact are the aggressors and thus, the otars in the community are justified in their actions?

I may have read it wrong and if that is the case I am sorry because as much you may think I like "argue for the sake argument" in fact I dislike it because arguing on the internet is better saved for the short bus.

If you read my comment carefully you would have realised it was not addressed to Armenians but one in particular, further more it wasn’t to you!

Listen, you contributing to the Armenian society is not the question. I know many individuals that are involved, but yet are the first people to gossip about how "Armenians are this or that".

Let me share with you a experience I had in high school. I was in class and this American "friend" of mine was reading a newspaper and someone brought up the topic of the Armenian community in which my so-called "friend" stated that "Armenians maybe able to afford nice cars, but affording them and actually earning them are two different things". Now, after hearing this I immediately put this individual in his place, however, I am pretty sure that this person did not hear these words from an “otar”, but rather a disgruntled Armenian.

Now, why am I telling you this you ask? I just want you to know that I get upset when Armenians imply that we do illegal means to achieve our wealth when in fact it is far from it. However, like I stated earlier I do not want to suppress problems that actually are rampant, but getting concerned over problems and rumors are two different things.

The first things Armenians like to do is find a flaw in another Armenian than spread around the idea of flaw, when it reaches the original Armenian, the flaw has esculated into a problem.

Bottom line, Armenians will always looked as Armenians by “otars”, so, for some in the Armenian community to spread around false notions of fraudulent behavior, when in fact they are just isolated cases is in fact selling themselves short because at the very end they are also part of the demographic they degrade.

Hence your immature remarks are baseless and tasteless. You want to be respected and accepted? Try another approach! Here, or in life, no one is arguing one should preserve its identity, but the question is how?

My remarks are neither immature nor tasteless and like I have stated before "I call it how it is". For me to pretend everything is rosy, when in fact it is far from it, would mean I was not just lying to myself, but also the readers on this board.

What other approach? Are you referring to the approach of being the lap dog for "otars” or the approach of just allowing Armenians to fall into the illusion of "inevitability"? Can you please clarify?

I have not heard anyone come up with "another approach" on these forums besides TAP and I. The "intellectuals" are too busy analyzing the problems instead of solving them.

Everybody else is living in this ideal society that I am not part of not because I am outcast, but rather I choose to live in the ugliness of how the world actually is instead of pretending everything is "nice and peachy" when in fact it is not.

Now answer me that, "Armenian power and Armenians are #1" mentality is way out of my "league" you picked the wrong person to argue with!!

Why is that bad? Why is being proud of your heritage a bad thing? Why do you place ethnocentrism under blanket of extremism?

Do I think that thinking you are better than other ethnic groups is disrespectful? Yes, I do think it is disrespectful, however, do I consider maintaining, protecting, and strengthening ones identity a good thing? Yes, I do.

Listen, I do not want to argue with you, but what you said implied that you were trying to justify the actions of the "Glendalians". Now if you were not, I take back everything I said and am sorry, but if you are, I stand by them.

Vigil,

You were accusing me of being ethnocentric, which nowadays has become the equivalent of being a "bigot", by stating:

"Hence your immature remarks are baseless and tasteless. You want to be respected and accepted? Try another approach! Here, or in life, no one is arguing one should preserve its identity, but the question is how? Now answer me that, "Armenian power and Armenians are #1" mentality is way out of my "league" you picked the wrong person to argue with!!"

In which I replied:

"Do I think, that believing a certain ethnic group is better than another ethnic group, is disrespectful? Yes, I do think it is disrespectful, however, do I consider maintaining, protecting, and strengthening ones identity a good thing? Yes, I do and this ethnocentrism should not be considered the equivalent of being prejudice."

That’s not what you replied! but, I see you are young, and in some extent I’m proud of you, yet your views and thoughts are mixed and need further polishing, but I do sincerely admire your passion, if you are not careful stating such a comments among odars (such as preserving ones heritage and identity and presenting Armenian Power and Armenians are #1 thing), it can very well backlash at you, and portray you as a bigot!

What I was saying is we as Armenians do not need such characters as Mosjan posted, on the contrary we have so much other then that to present our self’s with.

Many times I have been mistaken for Iranian or Albanian because Armenian sounded like those, yet I didn’t mock them, instead I gladly explained who we are, where do we come from, and in the end I think we as ARMENIANS gained from that experience just a little bit, do you understand what is it I'm saying? I hope you do, why? Because you are Armenian MY friend, I do care genuinely for my people, that’s the list of my contributions to "myself"-Armenia and Armenians! ;)

How does breaking the law and realized it makes one a Hypocrite? Do you know the definition of the word? If not let me know or open up a dictionary, furthermore, your assumption of me being against "my Tribe"? I never knew we are a tribe, if we are a tribe then you must be the perfect specimen to identify with.

And you stand corrected we can be classified as a tribe or part of, I'm also taking the liberty to provide the definition as well.

1.-a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations

2.-a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or intrests

Madarmo, <_<

Let me enlighten you and correct you we Armenians are NOT a clan, but an ethnic group.

Definition of Ethnic Group

The term ethnic means of or pertaining to a group of people recognized as a class on the basis of certain distinctive characteristics such as religion, language, ancestry, culture or national origin.
