gurgen
What I actually said was that the evidence was not sufficiently unequivocal that what took place could be classified as a genocide under the 1948 United Nations Convention on Genocide, and that while the debate continued among historians we believed that there was a role for us to encourage countries in the region to look to the future and to work actively for better relations and a lessening of tensions. Armat
I wrote the following email to Ms. Thorda Abbott-Watt. Her email address Thorda.Abbott-Watt@fco.gov.uk Ms. Thorda Abbott-Watt, In your blatant denial of the fact of Armenian Genocide you have not only disrespected the memory of over a million and half Armenians killed by Ottoman Turks, but also sided with murderers who carried out those horrible acts. You owe an apology to Armenian nation and entire civilized world that condemns crimes against humanity. The next day she replied: Dear Mr. ******** Thank you for your email. I am sorry that my Government's position on how we refer to the events of 1915-16 causes you personal distress. Please accept that we understand why Armenians feel so strongly about what happened, and have ourselves always condemned the massacres. We extend our sympathy to the descendants of all the victims and our assurance that what happened will not be forgotten. Yours sincerely, Thorda Abbott-Watt 19 March 2004 The %^& could of applogized personnaly and perhaps state that she is just a pawn in the government but her arrogant reply is repolsive. She should be kicked of Armenia. She can't eat and drink in Armenia and spit in our faces. What a worthless %^&. Somehow with your submissive approach I only see you becoming a puppet to a puppet (the British) I don’t see THAT as a way of getting massage across, what else you propose???, Come up with a sensible alternative or just zip it, we don’t need another critic among us, only with united, collective approaches like that will we be able to achieve peaceful solution. America-Hye
There is nothing wrong with making our voices heard. The British will not make a diplomatic decision to recognize the Genocide until it is in their best economic interests to do so. They know full well what happened and who was responsible. They are sitting in the funds confiscated from Armenians bank accounts in the Ottoman Imperial Bank. Turks transfered these funds into German banks. At the end of WWII the British took these funds knowing full well that ithey belonged to Armenians.

Yes, so I suppose than that when Turkey threatens to place an economic sanction on any nation when it wants to accept history, even though we all know Turkey will get on its knees a few weeks later, is a sign of failure on the Diasporas part. bellthecat
30-odd pointless posts! I might have expected that from the sort of cretins that write for California Courier, but I would have hoped for something better here. Should all ambassadors to Turkey be quizzed about their opinions on the Armenian Genocide, and be expelled by Turkey if they said it happened? Sould ambassadors to the US be expelled if they or their home countries think Bush is a war criminal president of a country that makes wars for a living? Start to live in the real world. Ambassadors are in a foreign country to represent their home countries interests and views in diplomatic matters - they are not there to be made/tricked into making public comments on the history of that country, or, for that matter, be made to make public comments on anything or be expected to hold public views on anything. We are talking about sensitivity about the history and the people these diplomats work with day in day out. Everyone has his or her way dealing and understanding the complex issues of AG thus my personal comments are only reflection of who I am therefore you are free to express your views as well but understand that we are not talking about minor, insignificant issues but something much deeper. Everything we say and do changes reality. The diplomat’s comments were appropriately answered and that in itself changes reality in a right direction towards recognition of AG and a better, moral world, I say world since everything is connected to everything. Truth is bigger then ourselves. Edited March 22, 2004 by Armat
Sasun
Steve, just like embassadors are representing the interests of their governments, the people in the county where they work represent their own interests and can express however they feel about the policies of foreign countries. First of all, this embassador in question is nothing like an innocent being. Second of all, 'screw her' means screw her government's hypocritical and immoral policy. If she feels pressured she deserves it - nobody has forced her to take a job where she has to prostitute trading common decency and integrity with whatever crappy rewards she gets from her government. This is the real world, ordinary people are not obliged to understand or appreciate diplomatic nuances. The diplomats, on the other hand, should take all the potential liabilities that come with their profession.
bellthecat
Doesn't the golden rule for courtroom lawers go something like "never ask a question unless you already know the answer you will be given"? If there was a possibility that an answer that wouldn't be liked would be given by the ambassador then why on earth was the question asked in the first place? Great work - now the Turks can say "see, even the British ambasador to Armenia says the Armenians are a bunch of liars about their so-called genocide". Actually, all they seem to be are a bunch of political amateurs with a rather inflated sense of their self-importance.

I have said similar things on several occasions right on this forum. However, now I certainly believe that we have a streak of masochism. We like to be constantly flagellated and hurt. We ask the ambassdaor of Israel her opinion knowing full well what the aswer will be. We ask the British ambassador.... Let's do this, and this will give us ample reason to scream, yell and use prophanity. Let us ask Mehmet Turkoglu his opinion about the genocide. If you will NOT like the answer then WHY ask!!! Sasun
Steve, personally to me the question is more simple: what is the truth? Did or did not a genocide take place? If somebody says "no" it is false, particularly if someone knowingly says so. This raises contempt among ordinary people who have no diplomatic responsibilites, it is quite normal. Doesn't the golden rule for courtroom lawers go something like "never ask a question unless you already know the answer you will be given"? If there was a possibility that an answer that wouldn't be liked would be given by the ambassador then why on earth was the question asked in the first place? That maybe the proper wisdom in a relevant courtroom (if ever), however in this case I think the straightforward approach reflecting our position was more appropriate. Great work - now the Turks can say "see, even the British ambasador to Armenia says the Armenians are a bunch of liars about their so-called genocide". Why depend on what Turks may or maynot say? Aren't we willingly putting ourselves on their terms? We have the historical truth on our side, that's all that should matter to my mind. Propaganda considirations are less important. StealthSwine
EY! dumb arse there is no such thing as HISTORICAL TRUTH, whatever they say happened, has happened. TRUTH OR FICTION. You probably dont take me seriously. YOU WILL NOT CHANGE ANYONES OPINION! You want proof? how is it that i am working my ass off trying to prove to you guys something, but you dont change your opinions. There, thats one thing solved. Now i will be calm about this. If all you want is for the turks to say, yes, we did it... and you want every other country in the world to say, yes it did happen. Good luck, because, like I said, the Genocide has more than two sides, its not only the Armenian and the Turkish, there is another side. And the reason it doesnt come out, is because the other side will also come out. JUST DROP THE GENOCIDE ISSUE, and concentrate on now! your ancestors are dead! GONE! as are mine. Sasun
EY! dumb arse look piggy, one more comment like this and you are out for good. I don't care how much you cry about me not agreeing with your "opinions". If you want to be in this forum you gotta wash your mouth and be decent no matter what views you have. The only reason I personally tolerate you is because you are a kid. But it seems like you desperately want to be banned.
