KGB

I chose to post this under the subject topic of International since it involves other nationalities and actors besides Armenian.

The following is very concise abstract of said article which is 32 pages long in its original print.

http://www.gomidas.org/forum/af7kgb.htm

The first half of the article deals with the attempts and machinations of the Soviet KGB and the Armenian KGB to infiltrate and subvert diasporan societies, mainly Dashnak. The second half deals primarily with the Armenian KGB's internal activities. Many revelations as well as many not so mysterious facts. In one of the closing paragraph we learn that at the end of the 1980s the central KGB having lost its trust in the Yerevan bureau had removed all the archives and taken them to Smolensk which had Pres. TerPetrossian lament that; "That paralyses us beacuse they contain vital information on our society, our economy and our past." In the wake of the failed Moscow coup in Aug. 1991 the archives were once aagin returned to Yerevan where they remain all but closed.

One wonders what kind of mysterious secrets those archives hide, most importantly what it says about the mysterious deaths and disappearances of the likes of Paruyr Sevak, Aksel Bakounts and others.

BTW. In an article I read recently the author claims that Khachatur Abovian, with the complicity of the Church was arrested by the Tsar's secret police and banished to Siberia where he died.
