PATASKHAN

ANSWER

Ahmad Nurizade

They ask me

Armens everywhere,

Whether at feasts

Or other galas

Ahmad Nurizade

You, who is not Armenian, neither born as one

Then, how do you know the spirit of ours?

Our Armenianness?

I, half jokingly

Say one thing,

Sparing myself a serious response.

Yet at this moment, I wish once for all

Serious, with no joke

Wish to answer to this recurring matter.

Yes, my companion, my friend and my kin

It is obvious, I'm not Armenian,

Neither a Persian.

I am Gilaner and an Iranian,

My lot in life was to know Armenian,

To read and write.

Feel their spirit,

Almost none at that.

But in my capacity such

Serve to her culture

And literary soul.

Here I am today

Not a hye poet,

They have named me

Armenian people’s Persian speaking son,

Who already knows in Mashtot’s tongue

Speak Armenian and think so as well

Laugh in Armenian, and also feel sad

Sitting down with them, feasting with joy

To their sacred rites often partaking.

When I am reading history of yours,

The life of them, melodramatic,

Their tempesteous ups and their downs

Ever so grieving

And rejoicing too.

And when the nation triumphs the oppressor bad,

I too wish in very veins of mine

A breath of triumph

And a sense of pride,

My heart turns to their triumphal arch

And their pride,

My heart turns to that arch of memories,

And when they’re vanquished

I too wish, with my kin

To weep

Those weeping mothers, grieving and sad.

I also have an April 24th,

I too feel like Terian burning with love,

Tender and lovely with bodies so fine

To hay aghchikner,an ode I may say.

And like that Charents to the public sing

And sing to his beloved Land of Nairi

May I save from a deadly

Toumanian’s Anush.

I love your nation and culture

I, an Iranian, not an Hye poet,

I love it so much, just as you would

Because I, a man, love all of mankind,

And the noble spirit it creates.

And now this, answer to

What you often ask ,

That I love the Hye and the Hyeren,

Not that beast evil and so murderous

The beast with a human name,

Be it Armenian

Or alien it be

I yearn

That this ancient world

Turn ito a symphony great and humanlike,

And man a brother be to another man,

And sing each other everyman’s poem,

Noble, eternal.

This is the answer,

My dear companion

My Armenian friend.

Just for the heck of it, I'll post links to an argument I had on another forum with the administrator and one of the members. I can't tell if the links I am using work or not because I am using a web based proxy.

Eh. Whatever. I just did not want to repeat myself.

My main problem with the movie is that I don't find it thought-provoking enough. Although there were some great scenes (esp. the ones with Arshile Gorky in his studio - excellent acting as well), the rest of the movie was way too predictable and worse, a simple repetition of all that has already been said. I feel that Egoyan could have done a lot more with this movie had he been more original in his dealing with his main themes.

I disagree strongly but at least your opinion is reasonable.

Noyan Tapan News Agency

Oct 7 2005

PRESENTATION OF PERSIAN POET AND TRANSLATOR AHMAD NURIZADE'S THREE

BOOKS IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. "Ahmad Nurizade is

the only foreign poet writing in Armenian who in his fatherland,

Iran, holds propaganda of the Armenian culture and literature," Levon

Ananian, the Chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia mentioned at

the October 6 presentation of three books, "100 Years Armenian

Poetry," "Hail, Armenians" and "Night of Solitude and Dreams" by

Ahmad Nurizade, a Persian poet and translator. Nurizade's poems

written in Armenian language are presented in the last two books.

L.Ananian mentioned that Nurizade's translations from Armenian into

Persian made dozens of volumes. According to him, pages of Iranian

press are also full of interviews with Nurizade, and the Armenian

culture, Armenian people and friendship of centuries between the two

countries is in the pivot of all publications.

"Armenians and Persians have almost the same traditions and attach

importance to keeping national traditions. Nurizade attempts to serve

Armenian national values to his people and by this he destroys those

borders that there are between the two countries," L.Ananian

mentioned. He also informed that the third volume of the Persian

poet's poems written in Armenian will be published soon.

According to Reza Atufi, the Consulor on Culture of the IRI Embassy

to the RA, Armenian and Iranian cutures have come from old centuries,

and even somehow influnced on other civilizations of the world.

R.Atufi finds that though friendship between the two countries has a

history of milleniums, however, circles of Armenian-Iranian

cooperation must be widened even more.
