Peltekian" Date: Sat, 21 Feb 2004 23:20:41 PST IRAN BACKS AZERBAIJAN IN SETTLEMENT OF UPPER GARABAGH CONFLICT Ahad Gazai, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated in a Tuesday news conference that his country championed Azerbaijan's standpoint towards the resolution of the Upper Garabagh conflict. The Ambassador noted that the Iranian government backed the European Union's latest proposal on the re-opening of the Baku-Nakhchivan-Yerevan railway route in return for the liberation of five occupied lands of Azerbaijan and was ready to mediate between the two conflicting sides. The Iranian diplomat said that a military agreement between Iran and Azerbaijan might be signed in the near future. Underlining that an Iranian delegation is scheduled to visit Baku in this respect, Gazai said that the terms of the agreement would be coordinated with the two countries' defense ministries. Touching upon the opening of the Azerbaijani consulate in Tabriz, the Ambassador noted that the issue was most likely to be solved during President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Iran. Armat Posted February 23, 2004 Author Report Share Posted February 23, 2004 Does this mean the Iranian honeymoon is over?I guess Iranians are much more concerned about possible Nato and US toops presence in Azerbaijan then giving lip service to Armenia. It feels like our history being repeated all over again between Turks and Persians and being played on by both sides. I seriously think Armenian's future relies on herself and her alone. For that reason Armenian needs first and foremost a government in its thru sense of the word, no nation on this earth has achieved sovernity and prosperity by relaying others, contrary to this our present government has done nothing since the re-election, hopes and dreams of our nation has reached rock bottom, people need leadership and guidance, in the absence of a such Armenian will continue sink deeper into the abyss. First of all we need peace, active involvement of Diaspora into every aspect of our homelands affairs, I believe Diaspora is a formidable force and can make a deference, being passive sort of a wait and see attitude will lead into nowhere.
