I dont realy understand why Andy is so great !

There is nothing magnefic in his voice, lyric..

Read this one: http://ino.uzpak.uz/eng/cult_art_eng/cult_art_eng_2710.html

He has been in Uzbeckistan, and people from Bahrain, USA, Iran..travel there to see him !

I have heard that second generation kids in USA dont speak Persian at home, but when Andy is on TV and sings they repeat after him.

Yes I guess that is the key. He is entertainer and fun. The youth in Iran havent good time. 70% of population are under 30 years ! He sings catchy songs and get them and good mood.

I guess after a new revolution Andy could candidate as president. He has a good chance.

Well, if you are thinking of his Christian background..not even Sunni muslims can

go for president as it is now ! :D But after a new revolution and changes in constitution..you never know.

What goes for his Armenian heritage, I dont think people care so much.

He is simply Andy the entertainer. Especialy the youth dont care.

I mean his CDs are illegaly copied in 6 millions ex!

Just compare it to how many the best artists in west sale. They sings in English,

they have the entire world as market.

If there are 20 million household in Iran, it means 7 million household like his music !

Afterall he is born there, grown up there.

In surveys taken in Iran, when asked who they'd vote into the presidency, hundreds of thousands have penciled in one word: "Andy." And in Armenia, Uzbekistan, Paris, Montreal, Sydney, Chicago, Houston - anywhere the Persian diaspora has spread - one word will suffice: "Andy." They'll know who you're talking about. He's the only Andy that matters.

Are you serious? An Armenian for a president?

why not?

the largest minority in Iran are Armenians, actually they are not immigrants!, they are natives of north west Iran (except Isfihanian Armenians who live in central Iran since I guess 500 years ago)

so this is their land too, they have the right to be president or any high rank official.

the land the oil, the gas, everything is their's too.

something which was very strange for me was that all of these Barskahyes I met in the universities hadn't forgotten Hayeren in 500 years although I felt that many of them speak Farsi better than Hayeren

we have a lot of Barskahyes and Barsiks in our university in Yerevan and they are very much alike, infact you cannot see any difference between them (btw I don't see big difference between Hyastancies and Iranians in general) even the family names of most of the Parsik in our university are Armenian-style seems that they have adopted our lastname form even when the Barsik Muslim Iranians are speaking Farsi u can hear that they call each other "Xosro jan", "Armin jan"! especially when they're close friends or addressing people of opposite sex :

let me write some of the names of Barsiks I know in the university & Yerevan:

Xosro Markarian: Persian Zoroastrian-born

Amir Hosin Kasebian: Persian Muslim-born

Alirza Rakeiyan: Persian Muslim-born

Anoush Nejad Husseinian: Persian Muslim-born

Armin Joneydian: Gulf-Coast south Persian Muslim-born

Farid Pashmakian: not sure Zoroastrian-born or Muslim-born

Sarah Shirvanian: Muslim-born Persian (female)

--------

Personally I believe calling Andy a "musician" is a DISRESPECT for art.

Aiduncho, have the idea that there are tons and tons of Islamized Armenians (maybe more than there are in Turkey) in Iran ever crossed your mind?

well, I think that's very much possible  :)

but this Zoroastrian friend of mine once told me that the majority of Zoroastrian sur-names end w/ "ian"

he said Zoroastrians are the symbol of persian ethnicity and culture and even in India the immigrant Zoroastrians are called Parsi which means Barsik.

I'm not sure, I don't have enough study in this field but I think these are Zoroastrianized-Armenians who were Islamized later I mean Islamized 'Zoroastrianized-Persianized-Armenians'

have u ever heard about Vartan's battle in southern Armenia against the army of the zoroastrian clergies and zoroastrian soldiers who attacked Armenia from Athropatekan (Iranian land of Azerbaijan)?

they could have Zoroastrianized many Armenians by FORCE, and then after Islamization of Iran.... you do the math...

----

P.S. did you know there are many many many Armenian words in Farsi?!?

these words could have entered Farsi or Avestan/Pahlavi from the assimilation of Zoroastrianized Armenians into the original Barsik stock
