We Armenians don't like conflict and easily accept what is fed to us. We are too damn tolerant. Too damn tolerant and don't have enough pride to reject their music - even if we like it - just for the sake that the issues between the Turks and the Armenians are unresolved. But nowadays, people classify Rabiz as Turkish music. Actually, Turks don't have music, whatever Armenians are singing (rabiz) is based on old Armenian music themes. Some of them are exceptions, like the arabic music. The way they sound and the way their music goes, but I can't judge them! It's the way of living. I think whoever is concerned with Saving the Original Armenian Music should not waste their time on arguing over "rabiz". They should just work hard and bring back the original music. I personaly listen to Komitas, Khachaturian, Ekmalian, etc. Armenian Jazz is also a high class music, listen to Armenian Jazz! Just go to www.narek.com and search for good music Just one thing, that is very important is whoever sings a "rabiz" music should not use any non-sense Armenian words. Because some of the "rabiz" songs are really stupid, like Josephs music "Charajiji Chichou mnes"... Cmon are listening to a song about a mean worm?? My initial argument was that people who like Arabic music should call it Arabic and not Armenian. Are Armenians the only group of people who listen to more foreign music than their own? And I am not talking about the country where you reside(People in the US naturally are going to listen to more English songs), but you walk into a Mexican music store you will not find French, Italian, Arabic, etc music. Only Mexican. Same for other nationalities. Including European(so don't tell me it is because of proximity) I have been to the music store in the Alpine Village and all they sell is Germanic stuff outside of the classical music. So why is it that we think that we are cool by listening to Arabic, Turkish, Assyrian, Persian, Russian, Greek, etc music. Is Armenian music not satisfactory for us? Most Armenians are from everywhere hence they listen the music they grew up listening. Interestingly I grew up as a “Iranian Armenian” but I failed to fall in love with Persian music. On the plus side Arpa, MJ and others kept saying that we are schizophrenic bunch but how can that be true when we are true cosmopolitans and listen to world music and not just ours!
