MosJan Posted July 12, 2024 Author Report Share Posted July 12, 2024 He was born on 19 June 1853 in Cappadocia, Abruzzo, Italy to Vincenzo and Annunziata Lilli. He joined Franciscan in 1870 and make his final vows on 6 August 1871. Religious life[edit] He was ordained on 6 April 1878 in Bethlehem. He served as a missionary in Armenia. He also built schools, clinics and homes for abandoned. He taught modern hygiene and sanitation in villages. He worked with the sick during a cholera epidemic in 1891.[7] Persecution and death[edit] He was serving as a parish priest and superior of the Franciscan House at Mujukderesi, Turkey, at the time of death. He was arrested by Turks along with his seven companions and forced to embrace Islam, to which Lille and his companions refused and hence they were killed and their bodies desecrated and burned. Beatification[edit] Theologians approved Lilli's spiritual writings on 19 May 1939, and he and his companions were later declared Servants of God.[8] On 3 October 1982, Pope John Paul II beatified Salvatore Lilli and his companions.[9][10] The feast day is celebrated on 19 November.[11][12][13] Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The celebrations Reflection and prayer marked the celebrations which preceded the inauguration of the chapel dedicated to the Blessed Salvatore Lilli ofm, in the Mother Church of St Margaret in Cappadocia, the village in Abruzzo where the Blessed Lilli was born. The Custos of the Holy Land fra Francesco Patton accompanied by the General Commissar of the Holy Land fra Sergio Galdi d’Aragona, fra Vincenzo Ianniello and fra Gian Claudio Bottini were welcomed to Cappadocia by His Excellency Monsignor Giovanni Massaro, Bishop of the Marsi and by Monsignor Nareg Naamoyan, Exarch of the Armenian Catholic Patriarchate for the Holy Land and Jordan, by the Mayors of the neighbouring towns and villages, by the Carabinieri and by the village band. Studied at the Franciscan seminary in the Holy Lands. Ordained in Bethlehem on 6 April 1878. Missionary in Jerusalem for two years. Missionary to Marasco, Armenia in 1880. In addition to preaching the faith he built schools, clinics, and homes for the abandoned, and taught modern hygiene and sanitation in the remote villages. Worked endlessly with the sick during a cholera epidemic in 1891. Missionary to Mujuk-Deresa, Armenia in 1894. In 1895 the area was occupied by Islamic Turks who captured Salvatore and fellow Franciscans Baldji Oghlou Ohannes, David Oghlou David, Dimbalac Oghlou Wartavar, Geremia Oghlou Boghos, Khodianin Oghlou Kadir, Kouradji Oghlou Tzeroum, and Toros Oghlou David. They were tortured and ordered to convert; they refused.
