Armenia Elected UNESCO Executive Board Member

For the first time Armenia was elected as member of the UNESCO Executive Board for the period of 2021-2025, during the body’s general conference in Paris.

Armenia was among four countries nominated for the position. The other three were, Lithuania, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

With 146 votes, Armenia came in first in the secret-ballot vote.

UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

The Executive Board is one of the three constitutional organs of UNESCO (the others being the General Conference and the Secretariat) and it is elected by the General Conference.

Acting under the authority of the General Conference, the Board examines the programs for the organization and corresponding budget estimates submitted to it by the Director-General.
It consists of 58 Member States each with a four-year term of office.\\

Armenia Elected to UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the First Time

 

Armenia has been elected to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the first time — this an important moment for the country and its work in protecting culture. The vote was held on November 24 in Paris during the 25th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention. The Armenian Foreign Ministry shared the results in a public statement.

During the elections for open seats on the committee, Armenia received the strongest result among all candidates, with 105 out of 161 possible votes. Officials said this outcome “reflects the high level of confidence of the international community in Armenia’s efforts in the field of cultural heritage preservation.”
