Arpa
Aylaserum? To be interpreted as both alienation as well as xenophilia. Is there ought to be a law??!!Language police; http://www.armenianow.com/2003/november21/...eatures/tongue/ I find it a bit ironic when the state is out in full force to clean up alien invasion when our language is polluted to the point of illegibility. One would have to use a microspcope to find a native Armenian word in our cookbooks and cuisine. gamavor
When cleaning, lets start cleaning thoroughly. Lets all get rid of 'kef', 'aman', 'jan', 'yavrum', etc., etc., etc..As to road, company and any other sings, they all need to be accompanied with Armenian translation in Armenian language if they are displayed publicly. Harut
the caption of the first picture reads "how do you write "new york" in armenian?" before answering that question, i think one should answer to the question "why new york bar in the middle of yerevan?" nairi
Harut, why Nairi Varsaviranoc or Movses Haci Khanut in the middle of Los Angeles?
Anoushik
Harut, why Nairi Varsaviranoc or Movses Haci Khanut in the middle of Los Angeles? Nairi, it's not the same thing as "New York Bar" in Yerevan. Since the population of Los Angeles is made up of immigrants from all over the world it's nice to see stores and markets that you can identify with a certain ethnic group. But in Armenia we have to be able to recognize that the population is Armenian. I personally don't think that a store or two in Armenia with foreign names is a problem but when it gets out of control and everyone starts using foreign names, then something should definitely be done about it. nairi
It's moments like these when I wish there was a huge hole in the ground that I could just sink into and disappear. When will Armenians go extinct for crying out loud!!! All that bloody trouble about keeping their pathetic culture and primitive language alive!!! IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mereq gnatseq! Trust me, the world will be a MUCH better place!!!! WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A PROPER DICTIONARY!!!!!!!!
Anoushik
Nairi, I am really surprized. What is your problem?
Jend
I don't understand why we shoudn't have non-armenian names. This artificial cleaning of languge is not good at all. Sometimes it's funny to hear herachos or hamakargich when the whole world uses telephone or computer. Nairi even if you are angry, it's not good to say that kind of phrases...
