The problem with refugees is that they'll invent anything to receive asylum, and as you saw, they even threaten when they can't get what they want. I'm not sure how true her claims are... who can confirm it?She is probably Yezidi Kurd. Many minority members in Armenia have -yan, -ian in their surnames. Rimma Varzhapetian, the chairman of the Jewish community comes to mind, I also met a Yezidy family in Yerevan whose surname was Assadian even if his first name was totally non-Armenian, Kursdish. When asked if he knew what Assad was he was not sure if it meant Azat or Assad an arabic name. I told him that it may mean "asad", lion in Arabic he puffed up like a peacock and brought his wife over for me to repeat it. :)As you rightfully point out many have and do use persecution as an excuse for asylum. Short time ago the most popular excuse was persecution due sexual orientation (at time totally fabricated).I just dropped a TIC note to Levon Avdoyan asking him if he had seen the item and if he would be related.Let's see what his answer will be.Also note that V and B are interchageable as in Vahram/Bahram, so in this case Avdo- could very well be a variation of Abdo-yan Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The person who wrote the article for the Gazette of Antwerp (Gazet van Antwerpen) hasn't gotten back to me yet. But whatever her ethnicity or the details of her story, I wouldn't take this article too seriously, even though it depicts Armenia as committing a genocide against its ethnic minorities...
