Arpa
I've heard some armenian men call their wives/gfs ara...what's the deal with that?Isn't it almost the same as b****? I have never heard of that expression. Are you sure it is not "ara-gast"? The last syllable may be precariously anagramical to another word.Aragast is an armenian word to mean "bridal chamber/curtain". Below you will see it described as "bridegroom.... chamber". The quote is from the Bible Psalm 19 verse 5. In Armenian it reads; "Ou anika aragasten eladz pesayi pes e, hzor mardu pes ir jampan vazelov k'ourakhana". Pss.19[5] Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. According to sources "aragast" is a (bridal)curtain, bridal suite. The word is based on "ag" as in "agnil/haganil" to wear to dress, and "ast" as in "zgest/zgast", dress, clothes.
Sip
Ara, Arpa, ap jan, you haven't heard "ara ari desnem", "ara mi hat araghe ber eli", "ara inches asum ara?", "ara, enor e arain desar?" ... etc?
Arpa
Ara, Arpa, ap jan, you haven't heard "ara ari desnem", "ara mi hat araghe ber eli", "ara inches asum ara?", "ara, enor e arain desar?" ... etc? I have been toying with the idea of "ankanon bayer/irregular verbs" for quite somtime. I even hinted to it a few days ago. I will when I have enough material. In the meantime ari/ara/ekur/ekav is one of them.Maybe some will help us compile some ankanon bayer like, ari/ekav, gna/ertham, utel/ker etc.
Sip
Arpa, I think you'll appreciate this one ... A few months ago, a few friends and I had gone on a trip somewhere. Some of them are Hyastantsis, one is Leninakantsi, and a couple of braskahyes so there's a mix ... Anyway, we are all standing around and all of a sudden the leninakantsi friend comes from behind, bringing something in his hand, saying this (I'm not sure who he was referring to but I only heard what he said): "Esik dir eli" (requesting that the item be placed whereever ... not important). But I think you can imagine the look on ALL our faces since we all thought he was pissed off at something (say that quickly and in a loud firm voice and you'll know what I mean)

Arian Zinavorents
only eastern armenians use that word. And ara means friend.
