It is reported below that the mosque is planned to become a museum. A museum, not a meat market or mens' room, i.e. a zugaran.

This principle has been adopted by the head of the Caucasian Moslems

Allahshukyur *****zadeh. The latter called the Catholicos of All

Armenians Garegin II to stop the destruction of monuments of the

Azerbaijani culture in Artsax. He is going to discuss this question

with Catholicos Garegin and the head of the Russian Orthodox Church

Alexi II in March 2004. Apparently *****zadeh is not informed about

the real situation, or he has been involved in politics. Otherwise

he would not make such an appeal. The Azerbaijani press writes that

the press secretary of the Administration of the Caucasian Moslems

informed about Armenians destroying and robbing Azerbaijani national

and spiritual monuments. According to him, Allahshukyur *****zadeh

is also concerned with the fact that the authorities of Artsax have

decided to turn the mosque of Shushi into a museum. First of all,

there can hardly be "hundreds of national and spiritual" monuments

in Azerbaijan, let alone in the "the territories controlled by

Artsax". Second, the mosque of Shushi, even by the most optimistic

evaluation, is difficult to consider an Azerbaijani one. And third,

as distinct from the Azerbaijani authorities, which for decades

continuously destroyed the spiritual and historical values of the

native peoples, the NKR authorities provide means to restore and

preserve not only Armenian monuments but also the monuments of other

cultures. *****zadeh perhaps knows what barbarisms have been done

by the members of his spiritual flock in Nakhijevan, in the last 1-2

years. In particular, they completely destroyed the tens of thousands

of khachkars in Jugha. This question was discussed in the UNESCO,

in different international instances. Maybe they should only try

not to damage the tens of thousands of monuments spread all over

the territory of Azerbaijan. We do not say preserve or "turn into a

museum". We hope that the spiritual leader of the Caucasian Moslems

will pay attention to these problems because everybody in the world

understands everything.
