Homsheniks Population.

Something does not make sense statistically.

 

First of all, Homshenik Armenians are not called Homshen Armenians because they are Muslim, the prove is that there is a Christian Homshen group living in parts of Georgia and Russia.

 

There were very considerable number of Christian Homshem Armenians even in late 18 century. The Ottoman converted the homshens starting in the 16-19 centuries.

 

Now, what does not make sense, is that there is hundreds of thousands Homshems that still call themselves Homshemik in Turkey. If we supposes a level of Turkification of about 4 times, and that we supposes that out of 1 on 4 Homeshenik persisted and conserved their Armenian dialect... and that we supposes that from 1900 up untill now, their number would have tripled(by considering WWI Muslim losses in the region that McCarthy has used). That would mean that in the 19 century there were hundreds of thousands of Homeshenik, from which at the very least tens of thousands were still Christian.

 

That is very important, because Homeshinks are not called differently from Armenians, because they are muslim, they are called that way because they were an Armenian trib from the homshen region arriving on the region on the 6st century.

 

The names given to them was not Ermeni, they were even not included in the "Other population" list, or "Other Christian" those Homeshenk, from the 16nt century, and from the beggining of the said official "statistics" were all entirly added as Muslim, there was even not calculation of household on them, they were added on "uncounted population" that were all considered as Muslim, because for the Ottoman government the Homsheniks were Muslim, like other tribs.

 

There was even Homsheniks reported in Izmit. So, the question is, would it not be logical to add those possible Christian homsheniks to the Armenian population of the Ottoman, rather than tablating the entire group as "Muslim" ?

 

What to say about those Homeshenik groups that moved on the mountains in 1915? Why were they trying to hide? Where they not considering themselves as Armenians? There should have been at least 100,000 thousands undeclared Armenian Christian tribs in the Ottoman from which 75,000 would be Homsheniks, assuming that the level of conversion stabilised after the 18nt century and considering the actual Homshenk population.

Would that not mean, that my dear chap McCarthys 1,698,301 Armenians in the entire Ottoman would not jump to 1.8 million? remark here I have not touched his "correction factors."

The funiest part is that McCarthy admit that those, in his Muslim and minorities.

 

 

The native Christians of the east, on the other hand, were the most poorly enumerated of any of the Ottoman millets; in fact, there has never been an accurate count of their population in either Ottoman or modern Turkey.
