DominO123
In one of McCarthys essays concerning the Wellington House Publications, McCarthy tries to discredit the publications of this "house," of materials that concerns the treatment of the Armenians in the Ottoman empire. First, his claim fall short from the admission of the "house" itself. Wellington House was established as propaganda tools against Germany, it never has been a Propaganda tool against the Ottoman Empire, from the list of documentations after World War I, there were no indications that thise House was ever build to build propaganda against the Ottoman Empire. Mccarthy uses indirect allegations by bringing the fact that it was been used as propaganda, without having the honnesty to say, it was propaganda against German, NOT Ottoman. The reason why the Houses published works about the Treatment of the Armenians, was to accuse Germany that it has a responsability over the crimes commited by the Ottoman against its minorities. What happened is that the House not having enough materials to accuse Germany for every wrongdoings during the war, it accumulated documents about the treatment of the Armenians and publish them, for one reason. The logic was: Look whom are their alies And the admission was even made by Toynbee years later, not only in his own autobiography, but as well in a letter he wrote years before his death. Toynbee admited that the Houses was used as a propaganda tool against the Germans, in fact, they admitted later that there was wrong informations like "gasing"against the Serbs and other people, build by those propaganda houses, but on the other hand, the members of the Houses as well decades after WWI, recognised that the reports about the treatment of the Armenians were accurate. I, in the past on another forum presented the admission of few authors from the house, making the difference between what has been published about the Armenians, and what was published about the Germans. They admitted in the first cases that the informations were accurate and one the second one, they were not all accurate. But again, McCarthy has failed in his work as a so-called researcher to bring the cases like an independant researcher would do. He presented every publications from the houses concerning the Armenian treatments and try to destroy those claims(one of those, being the Blue Book, this claims of his has been destroyed when the uncensured version has been published by the Gomidas Institute). The cases that I would like to present is the memoirs of Fa'iz al-Ghusein, that McCarthy wants to discredit. McCarthy writes: There are a number of internal inconsistencies in this story, errors that should not have been made by a supposed Ottoman official, such as placing cities in the wrong provinces. But forgetting about those, if you read the book you will notice that he wrote about things that he never could have known, secret conversations. It is interesting that he says "forgetting about those," because I don't want to forget about those. McCarthy brings no examples, because he himself knows that cities in the wrong provinces were not uncommon in the Ottoman Empire, and this is why he tells to forget about those, no wonder he wants to escape, another point is that, more than one cities with the same names existed in the Ottoman Empire, so no wonder, one that would want to foul the reader will not mention that up. The Ottoman Empire was a mess concerning the "division"of the Provinces, the same cities for example would cut in two pieces, and therefore could be included in two different Provinces, more particularly one part run by non-Turkic Islamic tribs.(which he was part of) From reading the book alone one can see that it has all been made up, but the most telling thing about Fa'iz al-Ghusein comes hom an investigation of Ottoman records: There was no such person. If he indeed was employed in the govenmlent in either Syria or Manuuetiilaziz he would have appeared in the list of government officials. Not only is there no Fa'iz al-Ghusein, there is no Fa'iz at all. The man simply did not exist. He was never there. Because Wellington house burned their records, we do not know who actually did write the book, but we can trust that it wasn't Fa'iz. I have read the book, I have a copy of that book, and I don't see it has been all made up. Furthermore, in your quote here that I present, one would see that he really existed. You know why? He was a "Kaymakam," I hope you don't deny the existance of "Kaymakam," if because he is not found in the records you mention above, he does not exist, then other "Kaykmakams" didn't existed either, because the Bedouin "Kaymakams" a good part of them were even not on the list of the Government Officials, because they were not recognised by the Government as an "official" official, they were only representing those Bedouins and Arabic tribs, and were employed by the government. In order to find them on any list, one should look at the local records in question, not on the official lists from the central archives in Istanbul for example. As for burning the records, the records were not burned because they were lies, the records were burned because an order was given to burn those files after the Armistice was signed with the Germans, and Britain to show its good faith decided to stop its propaganda and closed those Houses aimed at propagandising against Germany and as well keeping them in compleat secrecy in order that people don't found out about it. Similar houses were build during WWII, and the crimes against the Jews were used, would that mean mr. McCarthy that the holocaust never happened because such houses existed? I can refer to many references used by Hilberg himself published and presented by such houses, would you claim that those references are fakes and therefore the holocaust didn't happen? Of yes! Of course not, it is not neo-NAZIs that pay you your vaccation to Turkey, grants you, it is not in a neo-NAZI founded chair of history that you are working for. EDITED: Learn amore about it, where does it say Ottoman, Turkey, Turks, Armenians? http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWwpb.htm Edited July 6, 2003 by Fadix
DominO123
A little correction, when I said cities having the same names... I also meant to say that villages and cities had the same names, and sometimes it was unclear whatever or not it was a village a city, considering that typical villages population was no more then 100 people, higher than that or an aglomeration could have been considered as a city waiting the actual real city.
