MosJan
Senate Support for Genocide Resolution Keeps Growing --SENATORS FEINSTEIN, LAUTENBERG, SCHUMER, SPECTER, AND WYDEN BRING TOTAL NUMBER OF COSPONSORS TO THIRTY WASHINGTON, DC—Senate support for the resolution marking the 15th anniversary of the US implementation of the Genocide Convention continued to grow last week, bringing the overall Senate cosponsor list to thirty, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). Since its introduction on June 9, ANCA activists from across the country along with the ANCA Leo Sarkisian internship program participants have been contacting Congressional offices in response to a nationwide ANCA action alert. The resolution, S. Res.164, specifically cites the Armenian Genocide, along with the Holocaust and the Cambodian and Rwandan genocides, as examples of past genocides. The resolution, spearheaded by Senators John Ensign (R-NV) and Jon Corzine (D-NJ), is similar to a resolution introduced last year in the Senate and parallels legislation, H.Res.193, introduced this April in the House of Representatives. The House bill was unanimously approved by the Judiciary Committee on May 21. Joining Senators Ensign and Corzine as cosponsors are: George Allen (R-VA), Evan Bayh (D-IN), Joe Biden (D-DE), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), Kent Conrad (D-ND), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Richard Durbin (D-IL), John Edwards (D-NC), Russ Feingold (D-WI), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), James Jeffords (I-VT), Tim Johnson (D-SD), Edward Kennedy (D-MA), John Kerry (D-MA), Herb Kohl (D-WI), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Carl Levin (D-MI), Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), Jack Reed (D-RI), Harry Reid (D-NV), Rick Santorum (R-PA), Paul Sarbanes (D-MD), Charles Schumer (D-NY), Arlen Specter (R-PA), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Ron Wyden (D-OR). Reflecting the growing international attention to the Genocide Resolution, today the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz published an article on the measure. Ha'aretz Washington correspondent Nathan Guttman, in an article titled "America Switches Its Allegiance to Armenia," cited the ongoing efforts by the ANCA to overcome the Turkish government's campaign to derail the resolution. DominO123
I really think that this time, it's the good one. In one week or so, finally the US will recognise it, I am naturally so pessimistic, still I can't see how it could be rejected this time.
