Sip
Sorry Azat ... this is not about you. I was just wondering if I remember correctly about having heard this phrase told to pregnant women about to give birth. Is it a common Armenian expression? Azat
There is a joke in there, but as with everything all my jokes are getting old.
Arpa
There is a joke in there, but as with everything all my jokes are getting old. No Azat it is no joke, even if it may seem like a play on your name.Even though I may not be able to corroborate Seap's phrase we do says things like "glukh@ azatvets", with good reason for more ways than one, first that the woman comes out with her head still attached, i,e, alive but more so for the process of birth. Once the head (of the infant) clears the canal in good and viable shape the birth would practically be successful. Besides, it is not just us that use the "azatvil" word in this process, consider the English word "delivery/deliverance". Another nuance of the latter word is found in the Lord's Prayer; "But deliver us from evil", i.e. save us from evil, Ayl prkya zmez i chareh/Ayl azateah zmez i chareh. On second thought, yes Azat it was meant to be a joke, and the joke is on you. What Seap meant to say was; Bari AZATum/GOOD RIDDANCE!!!:)

Is it a common Armenian expression? Why? Did someone wish you this? But, yes, it is said to pregnant women. Don't know about prisoners.
