SOS, Save Our Site.

Thank you Garo and his "gang of geeks" for an excellent site. And thank you forumers for keeping this site relatively informative and CIVIL. Once again Garo, the administrators and moderators deserve our gratitude and appreciations.

The new format has many neat features however here are some observations and problems I have encountered. Of course you can't go my me since I am the proverbial cyberklutz.

 

1. Gone is the color indicator of "read/unread".

 

2. Reply/quote page has two windows, one for "quote" and another for "add/reply" thereby denying us the immediate reference to the original text. Is ir possible to configure whereby one can respond line by line, i.e. the original in bold and the reply inplain as my netscape provides. There are times when one cannot discern who has said what and who is saying what.

 

3. At the "preview" window the "add/reply" button is lost? and tracking back will erase the text/composition.

 

There may be some more but the most problematic and troublesome for me has been..

 

4. I have not yet figured out how to control and remedy the overflow of the text past my right margin. Having to constantly horizontallyscroll causes me to lose my train of thought. I have been copying and pasting so I can read without having to scroll.

 

BTW. Getting to the last post without having to go through millions of pages is one of the best featurs.

naaa, just kidding, it was the master himself, no not Harut, but Garo that did all the work this time. He is the bomb!!!

 

Sorry if I jump in where I do not belong, but what kind of an Armenian would I be if I had nothing to say.

True, but the little icons next to each thread with a little "ipb" in them change from this http://www.armenians.com/forum/style_images/1/bf_nonew.gif to this http://www.armenians.com/forum/style_images/1/bf_new.gif when there is a new message.

This forum software uses a different method for the reply/quote mechanism, but an easy way to overcome that small issue is to hit "reply" and where you get the empty box for your message just cut and paste all the text from the reply window text and put your text in the middle like you use to do in the old forum. Sorry, I know it is a bit confusing.

When you click preview now it takes you to the same screen as "add post" or the reply to post" with your message on top of the text area for you to preview. at that time you can either edit it some more in the text area or scroll down a bit more and click the "Add Reply" or "Post" buttons

hmmmmmm, this maybe a screen resolution problem. Could I ask you for what your screen resolution is set to? You can quickly grab it by right-clicking on the desktop and selection properties. once the properties window opens up just click on the settings tab and see what the "screen resolution" is set to. I have not seen this issue, but my resolution is set pretty high.

I'll just add a few comments.

Azat already told you that the image indicators are not gone yet.

There are other ways to check out new posts as well.

1. Click on My Assistant and check out the section 'Since your last visit...' section. It'll list all the new posts since you last visit to the forum. The good news is that it doesn't matter where have you accessed the forum from last time - from home, work or from other places. It'll remember the posts you've see already.

2. Click on 'Today's active topics ' link and check out the posts listed at the top. The forum lists new posts in descending order and the first ones are always the ones that you may have not seen yet.

You can still use the old way to simply quote the whole post. Just click on the Quote button and type the reply. The forum script will automatically add the quotted text to your reply. Don't get confused from the fact that in the reply box you don't see quoted text as it was with the old forum.

It would be better if you have your screen resolution set to at least 800x600.

With 640x480 you may have horizontal scrollbars when replying to or posting new messages.
