Arpa
Times are a changing.Today Ararat opens at a local theater. Below a review from our local paper. Please note that the G word is boldly used without rservation or qulification("alleged"?). It is ironic that several years ago this same paper saw it fit to edit out the G word from two consecutive obituaries. I contested them and after much back and forth argument, with the original texts as submitted by the funeral homes at hand, I received a letter of apology (no public apology though). Things must have changed drastically. Oddly enough, in today's same issue another obit of another grand lady in which the G word is a prominent and intgral part of the bio.Is the Armenians' dogged insistence finally paying off or Turkey's tarnished image is fianlly waking the American public up. Many of my "native" aquaintances are expressing unreserved indignation at the US financial assistance (gifts)to Turkey. Is this a spurr of the moment reaction to fresh memory of Turkey's "friendship" or will the average US citizen will once and for all remember what a whore (love for a price)Turkey is? http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story...sdate=4/11/2003
Guest Fadi
Again someone thinking to know what Egoyan tried to tell, and supposedly failed. "Ararat" clearly comes from Egoyan's heart to covey a message he urgently wants to be heard: that the world should acknowledge and be shamed that a great crime was committed against his people. The message I receive is that it is difficult to know the truth of historical events, and that all reports depend on the point of view of the witness and the state of mind of those who listen to the witness." Where that it says that Egoyan wanted that in the film ? He showed it was not recognised by the Custom officier refusing Saroyan to enter with something that represented a part of his heritage, because it was not recognised. Egoyan message was denial, not about a forced recognition. And, it is as well funny that this critic allege that all dependent on the witness(was not the only critic that made the same point), and that it is difficult to know historical truth is such circonstances, when it was not the witnesses in the film that have modified the stroy, but the contemporains. Arpa
Dear Domino, Tsav@d tanem I understand your pain. As the saying goes; "Did you see it or did you hear about it?" Pain is a very relative phenomenon. Have you been shot in the stomach? Neither have I. Do you really know what kind of pain that may be and the sverity? These critics have only heard (read) about it. They have also read opposing views. Pretending to be neutral (observers) and "unbiased" they must always end with a quetion mark. Plus, they must always keep on the fence in case the tide reverses again and Turkey hires (with our money) more lobbies. As far as we are concerned, regardless of how the audience leaves the theater, for many this is the first time they will even would have heard about the Genocide. Let us take things at face value. Let us get out of the "reaction" mode, i.e. shooting the messenger (critic) and let us advance to the "active" mode. Capitalize on the main message rather than "look for hair". You may remember my arguments with Ali (Aurguplu) who, a "grey" wolf in a lamb's coat was doing his darnedest to derail our argument citing numbers, i.e. how many victims it takes to qualify it as a Genocide. Where in kehena is he anyway? The days of argument are over. It is a fact. Read my message above again, where only less than ten years ago the G word was being questioned, and today it is practically a household word.Once again. Let's get out of the "reaction" mode and take "action". We have been on the defensive mode for far too long, it is time for "offense". Let THEM "defend" if they can! We have made our point, THEY are feeling that "point" (up their ...). Again, Atom has opened the floodgates, this is only a beginning, watch for the deluge!!! Turks have been deluding themselves and pulling the (wolve's) wool over the world's eye. The delusion is over. They WILL drown in this FLOOD. No time like the present. Turkey may be at her nadir of all times. Hit them while they are down. PS. I wonder, considering the LOW image of Turkey in re the Iraq saga, if it would reinforce what a "whore" Turkey is by handing out pamphlets(news items) to the effect, at the premises of the movie house.PPS. As a general rule I don't discuss the Genocide in public. As far as I am concerned the discussion period is over. It is a fact and it shall remain so. It is time for ACTION.
