Harut Posted November 18, 2002 Report Share Posted November 18, 2002 guys, i need some help. i'm taking my first DB course. we're in the 3rd week, still studying modeling and such, but will move to SQL with Oracle 8i soon. here it is.for the term project i need to think of a business, that is create a business scenario, and based on that story develop a DB, go through each step: modeling, drowing diagram (ERD, DSD, etc.), normalization, etc.(i don't know what else there is as of now), writing the script to create the tables, and finally write queries. everything is fine. i like the subject. i'm quite good at it as of now. i have a feeling that i can handel it easily. but... the probelm is that i can't come up with a scenario. can anyone help? i need real or imaginary company that could use DB. kind of small business that would need only 8-10 tables, with probably 10-15 fields max. so, if you can help, please write a paragraph or two about what company it is, what it does, and what the company needs DB for (to track its sales, to track its customers, to regulate its sales, etc). thank you Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Naturally the sales are much larger on average than purchases. Each Customer and Supplier have an adress and phone number, nothing more. You can also have fields for how far along each project has gone for, what percentage has been paid etc. Its really difficult for me to say more, coz I dont knoe how SQL. vava Posted November 20, 2002 Report Share Posted November 20, 2002 I hope I'm not too late. One example i've used is that of a merchant specialising in wine related merchandise. Glasses, Decanters, Corkscrews an Racks make up your inventory. You have a simple sales scenario that involves wholesale to restauranteurs and resellers, and retail to individual purchasers. The supply-side is simple too, as you only have a handful of suppliers. This scenario also allows you to profile different clients & track purchasing habits. Actually I'm trying to save up for a wine cellar (the fridge type with regulated humidity & temperature). Once I get that, well I'll have to save up for the wine.
