I would suggest you try out the speed test at This site to see what you get. It may be a simple mis-configuration problem? (like a home router/gateway or just PC misconfiguration) ... in any case, there are ways to find out where exactly the problem is if you are interested. There was circuit problem with WorldCom yesterday, which had affected the entire Internet network, yesterday, as advertised. Seems that it has not affected West cost. Most of the time, my packets to UCLA go to passadena->denver->seatle->gay area->silicon valley and then back down to LA. I don't know why that is. Also, at least a few days during the month, the packets sometimes decide to do the around the country trip! I posted this a while back ... packets going all the way to georgia or virginia and then coming back to LA!!! It's really rediculous.
