Guest Fadi
I agree with Seaphan. What you can do as well, is just do install an anti-Trojan and anti-worm, and verify if there is no Trojan in your comp. and that there is no one using your computer as a server
15levels
my PC was hacked last night. I discovered stuff installed on my hardisk, simply by noticing that there is much LESS free space on my C drive than before. Now I have to reinstall XP and all the software Please, give me some URLs for free Firewall softwares, I am going nuts..... Thanks many many thanks. Sip
Vow vow vow ... hold on a sec! Are you sure it was "hacked"? First thing you should do, is figure out where the space went. Depending on what operating system you have, I can tell you exactly where to look for extra stuff that can be deleted. They add up over time and sometimes windows doesn't clean them as it should. Is there any other signs other than the mysterious space issue which is leading you to believe your system was tampered with?
Sip
Never mind! I am retarded (I just noticed you said XP). 1) In this case, you want to look under C:Documents and Settings[Your User Name]Local Settings Try to get rid of everything in the TEMP sub folder. 2) Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Internet Options, and click on "Delete Files". That will get rid of all your internet cached files (you don't need them). 3) After all that, on your desktop, right click on the Recycle Bin and choose "Empty Recycle Bin". This should free up quite a bit of space. The next important question I have, is when was the last time you ran the "Windows Update" feature from the start menu? At the VERY least, you should have installed Service Pack 1 (through the update) as that fixes a LOT of security things. If not, a reinstall of XP will not protect you from anything! It is always a very good idea to keep up with the latest updates and patches through that windows update feature. If you do that, most often you won't even need a "firewall" unless you have a totally exposed computer to the net and you have something that some hacker would really want. Sip
Anytime (hopefully, for your sake, no time soon ) Just as a reminder... there is NO substitute for regular backups of documents and irreplacable things like pictures. I know it's obvious but even I don't keep up with my backups sometimes ... and bad things seem to happen at the worst times! (like right before a deadline). Hyestyle
I don't think hacking is a big deal lol Well at least don't panic. It's just a game. LMAO Those are the script kiddies want to play with Trojan horses.
