Azat
Armenian Arts Presents an Extraordinary Night of New Armenian Music When: May 6, 2001 Where: at the Alex Theater Entitled Nor Yerk, the event will feature a program of fresh material, performed by established and emerging Armenian pop artists from the Los Angeles area. According to Armenian Arts founder and director Stepan Partamian, "the idea is to present to the public an extraordinary musical experience that reflects some of the best original work being produced today." Artists signed up for Nor Yerk are being asked to submit one or more of their songs to Armenian Arts, which will build the concert program through a selection process. "An important consideration is that the material should have a distinctly Armenian sound," Partamian explains. "This is not about discouraging crossovering or insisting on some kind of purity, but rather an opportunity for artists to explore their roots and offer their own interpretation of an Armenian musical spirit, whatever form their understanding of it may take. Within this context, Armenian Arts makes a clear distinction between 'artists of Armenian descent,' whose output has little or nothing to do with Armenian art perse, and full-fledged 'Armenian artists,' whose work directly contributes to Armenian art. The latter are the raison d'être of our initiatives." Established late last year, Armenian Arts is dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation of Armenian culture throughout the world. Some of the organization's goals include promoting emerging artists, organizing alternative performance events and exhibits, and publishing critical and informative works dealing with contemporary Armenian cultural themes. "A foremost practical concern of Armenian Arts is to find ways of discovering and disseminating the work of cutting edge Armenian artists," says Partamian. "We want to create an evolving forum, and not just within the confines of our community. Armenian Arts is the product of Los Angeles, addressing the unique needs of a burgeoning Armenian population. But I believe the model we're trying to give shape to is universal, meaning that Armenian communities everywhere might one day participate in its activities." Tickets: $25.00Tickets to Nor Yerk can be purchased online at http://www.armenianarts.com or by calling the Armenian Arts office at 818.244.2468. Azat
If any of you have a chance please go to this concert. Stepan Partamian is one of the few creative Armenian producers. Stepan also has a TV show on cable access in Glendale, but unfortunately I am not sure when it airs.

Azat
Mike, the cheapskate that I am I have not subscribed to his magazine. So I can't give you much info on it. I did email him and asked him to provide a little bit more information about the magazine.
